Patents Assigned to McMurry-Hughes, Inc.
  • Patent number: 4309899
Abstract: Disclosed is a holder which may be used for mounting equipment, such as sensing apparatus, within an otherwise closed environment. The holder is anchored and sealed to a landing device and may extend a mounting section into the interior of such a container. The mounting section is releasably attached to a seal section of the holder, which is selectively oriented by cooperation between an orienting device, fixed to the seal section, and a contoured surface within the landing device. The seal section is connected to an anchor section of the holder by a projection of the seal section into the anchor section. A washer spring operates as a clutch between the seal and anchor sections.

  • Patent number: 4295796
Abstract: The invention comprises gas lift apparatus including a generally tubular mandrel defining a main longitudinal bore therethrough and including pocket walls defining a longitudinally extending pocket laterally offset from the main bore and generally divided therefrom. The pocket has an open upper end for insertion of a gas lift valve. The pocket walls further have ports extending laterally therethrough on both sides of pocket, i.e. between the pocket and the main bore of the mandrel and between the pocket and the exterior of the mandrel. On one side of the pocket there are at least two such ports longitudinally spaced from each other, and on the other side of the pocket there is at least one port disposed longitudinally between the aforementioned pair of ports. The invention further comprises a gas lift valve adapted to be received in the pocket, and when so received, operable to permit communication between the port or ports on one side of the pocket and the port or ports on the other side of the pocket.

  • Patent number: 4275790
Abstract: Production equipment for oil and gas wells has features that allow accumulated liquid to be removed from the well without the need for a low pressure system. This equipment also isolates the perforations from accumulated liquid back pressure, even if there is insufficient hole depth below the perforations. The well has a tubing string located inside the casing, with the tubing in contact with the accumulated liquid. Both the tubing and the casing are connected to the sales line. Periodically, both the casing and tubing are shut-in, allowing formation pressure to build up in the casing. Then the tubing is opened to the sales line to discharge its accumulated liquid, it being driven by the higher formation pressure that has built up. To isolate the perforations from accumulated liquid, a standpipe is mounted in the casing above the perforations by a packer.

  • Patent number: 4275592
Abstract: Disclosed is a holder which may be used for mounting equipment, such as sensing apparatus, within an otherwise closed environment, and an extractor tool for inserting and retrieving the holder and attached equipment. In an operating configuration the holder is double-sealed to a landing nipple mounted on the container against communication of high pressure fluid out of the container. With the extractor tool mounted and sealed on the landing nipple also, a placement member within the extractor tool may engage the top of the holder to extract the holder from sealing engagement with the landing nipple. Two independent gear boxes are provided whereby translational and rotational motions may be separately imparted to the placement member. The holder is anchored to the landing nipple by threaded engagement between the landing nipple and a drive screw section of the holder. A separate seal section of the holder is rotated during the insertion procedure until a preselected orientation of the seal section is achieved.
