  • Patent number: 5410475
Abstract: A short case name generator transforms the long case name of a lawsuit into a short case name format. The text of the long case name is converted to low-level tokens using dictionaries and heuristic rules. Selected tokens are eliminated and other selected tokens are consolidated into higher level tokens. Each of a sequence of stages receives the output tokens from the preceding stage and produce tokens at a higher level of abstraction. Ultimately, the highest level tokens are produced. Selected high-level tokens are deleted and the surviving tokens are broken down to their component tokens, selected ones of which are also deleted. Next, the surviving tokens are converted back into the text they represent. Editing rules are then applied to that text which results in the short case name format.

  • Patent number: 5398280
Abstract: A system is disclosed for supplying information in electronic form from a database to subscribers at a plurality of remote locations. Subject matter descriptors are applied to newly acquired information, and these descriptors are compared with information interest profiles maintained for all of the subscribers. Each subscriber also has an assigned identification number. A list of identification numbers is prepared as a result of the interest check, and this list of numbers is broadcast by radio transmission. The subscribers are equipped with radio receivers able to recognize their assigned numbers. When a radio receiver recognizes its identification number, it causes an associated remote computer to call the database and request transmission of the document by telephone link.

  • Patent number: 5028154
Abstract: A printing station assembly includes a printer having drive means for feeding continuous form feed paper from a position below the printer, and through the printer. The paper is discharged through the rear of the printer where it is accumulated in a paper collection tray. The printer can be oriented in two different configurations, where the paper collection tray is either facing or opposing the user. To facilitate such alternate orientations, the printer has alternate locations for the printer control panel, one adjacent to the front side of the printer, and one adjacent to a rear side of the printer, and adjacent to the paper discharge side of the printer.
