Abstract: A frangible line defines a line of severance by extending across a carton wall that has a seam. The frangible line is extensively weakened along a predetermined segment where it traverses the seam. Preferably, the predetermined segment is extensively weakened by substantially disjoining the panel regions on either side of the line. Disjoinder is preferably achieved by making the predetermined segment a cut line.

Abstract: Substantially tubular, or sleeve-type, cartons each with an end opening having a width less than a pitch of flight bars of a packaging machine but having a combined end opening equal to the pitch of the packaging machine are erected and placed between the flight bars. In one embodiment, the cartons are detachably affixed to one another. In another embodiment, the cartons are detachably affixed to one another in collapsed condition such that the composite collapsed carton formed thereby has dimensions substantially similar to a single carton loadable on the machine.

Abstract: A carton for dispensing articles such as cups while retaining the remaining cups in the open carton. A plurality of panels are connected together to define a carton. A bottom panel includes a plurality of article-receiving openings therethrough. The openings are configured to receive articles and to retain the articles by their top flanges. Each of the openings is disposed adjacent to a fold line connecting the bottom panel with a side panel. The fold line includes a frangible portion that is positioned in proximity of at least one of the openings. Moving each article within the respective opening permits a flange of that article to initiate breakage of the frangible portion to release that article from the respective opening so that that article may be dispensed from the carton.

Abstract: A carton and blank for forming a carton for accommodating one or more articles which carton is provided with an access structure for the removal of articles from within the carton. The access structure comprises a closure panel hinged to a carton wall for forward and backward pivotal movement and a movable platform hinged to the closure panel for moving the contents of the carton forward for their removal in response to the forward pivotal movement of the closure panel.

Abstract: A separable dual carton for accommodating separate quantities of articles. The dual carton includes a plurality of panels hingedly connected to one another. A center top panel includes a tear strip which overlies at least one starter orifice. The starter orifice is formed from apertures in opposing panels which are sized and positioned to register with one another when the dual carton is erected. By removing at least a portion of the tear strip, the starter orifice becomes accessible to facilitate the separation of the dual carton into separate individual cartons.

Abstract: A carton includes a top panel, a pair of opposed end panels, and an integral strap handle that has a medial grip portion, a pair of wider portions and opposed end portions. The opposed end portions are formed from the end panels while the medial and wider portions are formed from the top panel. The strap handle is movable from a stowed position where the medial and wider portions lie in the plane of the top panel to a use position where the medial portion is arched upwardly from the plane of the top panel. The strap handle defines in the top panel an opening extending across the top panel. A relief notch is formed in the top panel at a location directly adjoining each wider portion along a complementary side edge of the opening.

Abstract: A carton includes a plurality of walls including a top wall, a pair of opposed side walls connected to side edges of the top wall and an end wall interconnecting the side walls defining an upper corner of the carton. The carton also includes an article dispenser for dispensing articles from the carton. The dispenser includes a detachable portion of the carton formed from the top, side and end walls and detachably connected to the top, side and end walls to be detached from the carton to define an opening for exposing an endmost article for removal. The detachable portion is adapted to define a heel for engaging the lower portion of the carton to support the carton in an inclined position.

Abstract: A device for grouping articles to be loaded into a carton and delivered to the device from an infeed stream at an infeed end of a packaging machine. The device comprises a leading and trailing spacer elements arranged to move along a first path, each spacer element being adapted to engage at least one article from the infeed stream and to convey the articles through a working reach of the device. The device further comprises adjustment means to adjust the device between a first mode in which each spacer element follows the first path to successively engage an article group; and a second mode in which the trailing spacer element follows the first path and the leading spacer element becomes transferred from the first path to follow a second path connected to the first path before rejoining the first path, whereby the leading and trailing spacer elements engage an article group simultaneously.

Abstract: A carton and blank for forming a carton for holding one or more articles, for example, flexible pouches, which carton comprises an article-retaining structure for preventing the dislodgment of the packaged articles through the open ends of the carton. The article-retaining structure comprises a retention panel which extends between the carton side walls intermediate the top and base walls of the carton to form a tubular structure in cooperation with the top wall. The retention panel is formed with at least one article receiving aperture, wherein tubular structure is provided with a brace for retaining the tubular structure in an erected form.

The strap is so connected at its opposite ends to the end closure panels as to provide a surplus of material to enable the user part to be brought into a position of use. The invention further comprises a tubular carton wherein at least one of the side walls comprises a displaceable zone arranged to protrude out of the plane of the one side wall. The displaceable zone comprises connected sections each occupying a different plane to a next adjacent section.

Abstract: An article carrier and a blank for forming an article carrier of the basket type comprising in sequence a first end panel, a first side panel, a second end panel, a second side panel and a third end panel foldably connected together one to next. A base panel is hinged to respective one of the side panels and a handle structure comprising first and second handle panels is foldably connected to the second end panel. The first handle panel is foldably connected to the first end panel and the second hand panel is foldably connected to the third end panel. The first and second handle panels are adjacent to the first and second side panels respectively and are separated therefrom. The first and second handle panels are so constructed and arranged to be placed in face contacting relationship to form a two ply handle when the carrier is set up.

The support structure has a plurality of displaceable strips secured together such that when the tubular structure is erected from a flat collapsed form, the displaceable strips are automatically displaced into the tubular structure to form the supporting structure.

Abstract: A carton for holding one or more articles, for example light bulbs, includes an article engaging panel having at least one retaining aperture provided in the engaging panel for receiving and retaining at least one article such that one portion of the at least one article protrudes therethrough, a pair of opposed side walls extending upwardly from the engaging panel to shield the one portion and terminating at the respective free upper edges of the side walls to allow access to the one portion, and a cover arrangement for containing the other portion of the at least one article. The side walls extends away from the cover arrangement. The cover arrangement includes a series of hingedly interconnected panels including a pair of opposed terminal panels. The terminal panels of the cover arrangement are connected to the side walls respectively to form a tubular structure for enveloping the other portion of the at least one article.

The carrier comprises a plurality of wall panels for forming a tubular structure. The wall panels include a pair of side wall panels, one of which is provided with a reinforcing tab hingedly connected thereto along an article-retaining edge of a first aperture for receiving an article. The reinforcing tab is folded to underlie the one side wall panel to provide a two-ply structure adjacent the article-retaining edge.
