Abstract: An apparatus for controlling the transverse movement of a fabric supporting carriage in a quilting machine. The carriage is coupled to a d.c. electric motor by a rack and pinion arrangement and the motor is fed by width modulated current pulses having fixed amplitude under control of a programmable processing unit such as a microcomputer.
Abstract: An apparatus for controlling the movement of a fabric-supporting carriage in a quilting machine includes a slider integral with the carriage. The slider is housed within a rotatable member and provided with an element slidably inserted in a shaped groove. The groove is formed in a perforated wall fixed in the frame below a guide in which the slider is positioned. The perforation in the wall is coaxial with a shaft which is fixed to a gear, the shaft being integral with the rotatable member.
Abstract: At least one needle-bearing bar of a quilting machine is connected to a reciprocable shaft, a control device is operatively arranged selectively to engage and to disengage the needle-bearing bar from the shaft. The control device includes either two electromagnetic or a pneumatically operated cylinder. A timer can be provided to effect energization of the electromagnets or fluid delivery to and venting of the cylinder.
