Publication number: 20090064385Abstract: A head projector comprises a protective skirt for use with a helmet for protecting parts of a wearer's head below the peripheral edge of the helmet, such as the temporal and occipital regions. The protective skirt comprises one or more layers of high tensile strength flexible material, such as an aramid material and a securing mechanism for enabling the skirt to be suspended from the helmet in the required position. The protective skirt may extend to a position below a person's head to cover and protect a person's neck region.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 21, 2006Publication date: March 12, 2009Applicant: Med-Eng Systems Inc.Inventors: Daniel Crossman, Ildiko Palfy, Justin Myles, Clint Hedge

Publication number: 20040079517Abstract: The present invention is a system for managing heat stress by both controlling the core body temperature of an individual and facilitating hydration. The system provides cooling to an individual through means of a liquid coolant such as water which is circulated by a pump through a heat exchanger to a heat exchange garment. The liquid coolant passes through the heat exchange garment where it extracts heat, increasing in temperature as a result of heat removed from the individual wearing the garment. The liquid coolant is then returned to the heat exchanger where it is again cooled. The cycle is then repeated. A drinking outlet provides a means for hydrating the wearer.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 29, 2002Publication date: April 29, 2004Applicant: Med-Eng Systems Inc.Inventors: Doug Bueley, Pierre Voisine, John Charles Tutton, Robert David Watters

Patent number: 6547284Abstract: There is provided a new and useful fluid conduit coupling apparatus which allows quick connection and disconnection with substantially no introduction of ambient fluids or air into the process fluid. In one aspect of the invention there is provided a quick connect/disconnect coupling for a fluid conduit, the coupling comprising assemblies for attaching to the ends of a conduit to be connected and for subsequently mating together, each assembly comprising a normally closed channel; means for expelling fluid from between the assemblies when the assemblies are to be connected to each other; means for preventing fluid from entering the assemblies from outside when the assemblies are being connected; means for opening the normally closed channels, means operable by the connecting of the assemblies to each other; latch means for securing the assemblies together, the latch means disconnectable by means of a hand operated unlatching means or by the application of a predetermined tensile force.Type: GrantFiled: August 31, 2001Date of Patent: April 15, 2003Assignee: Med-Eng Systems Inc.Inventors: Joseph Lorney Rose, Anthony Joseph Francis Corriveau, Kirk Alan Dobbs

Patent number: 6240558Abstract: A hand protection system for use by individuals involved in de-mining operations to locate and identify buried anti-personnel mines is designed to provide a degree of protection to the hands of the operative while still enabling the hands to perform necessary operations such as manipulating a probe rod, clearing soil by use of the fingers, etc. In one form the hand protector is a trough-shaped shield which tapers to a rounded forward end and is adapted to fit over the back of the hand of the user, the shield being open on its underside so that the user's fingers can be manipulated. In another form the hand protecting shield is of conical shape having a hole through its narrow end through which a probe can be extended and manipulated by a hand received within the protector. The protector includes laminated layers of aramid fibers together with other tough blast resistant materials such as polycabonate.Type: GrantFiled: March 3, 2000Date of Patent: June 5, 2001Assignee: Med-Eng Systems Inc.Inventors: Aristidis Makris, Bradley C.
