  • Publication number: 20050229936
Abstract: A patient restraint member is provided for medical procedures, such as radiation therapy. The restraint member is formed from a sheet of thermoplastic material that can be softened upon heating so as to be formable into a shape corresponding to a patient's body part to be restricted and setting upon cooling to retain the shape. The sheet includes spaced apart groups of perforations which minimize shrinkage during the formation process. The sheet also includes solid bands extending between the groups of perforation to provide rigidity and strength to the formed sheet.

  • Patent number: 6837844
Abstract: A large capacity seed cartridge is provided for a radiation therapy seed applicator. The seed cartridge is adapted for use with the Mick applicator, or other conventional applicators. The cartridge includes a housing with a seed drum mounted therein. A seed track extends around the seed drum. A spring operatively urges the seed in the track towards a discharge opening in the seed drum. A seed pusher rod in the applicator pushes each seed out of the opening and into the needle which is positioned in the patient, such that the seed is implanted into the body of a patient. The seed cartridge can be quickly and easily installed in the applicator and holds 120 radioactive seeds, or more.

  • Patent number: 6484332
Abstract: A patient transfer system is provided for quick, easy and comfortable movement of a patient between horizontal and vertical positions and between lateral locations for medical procedures. The system includes a gurney with a patient positioning board pivotally mounted thereon for movement between horizontal and upright positions. The board is adapted to receive a patient mold. A footrest is provided at the lower end of the board such that a patient can step onto the footrest when the board is in the upright position and lean against the board. The board is then lowered to a horizontal position on the gurney. The gurney can be wheeled into position adjacent a treatment table in a treatment room, such as for radiation therapy, and docked to the table.

  • Patent number: 6364529
Abstract: The quality assurance phantom for intensity-modulated radiation therapy is adapted for use with multiple dosimetric devices, such as ion chambers, MOSFET's, radiochromatic film, and TLDs. The phantom includes a base to which a static block is fixed. A dynamic block is mounted on the base and is adjustably spaced from the static block. A plurality of film dividers are sandwiched between the blocks. After film is inserted between the film dividers, the blocks are clamped together. The static and dynamic blocks include a plurality of cavities for receiving various dosimeters. The dosimeters are interchangeable within the cavities, so as to enhance the versatility of the phantom.
