  • Patent number: 7431916
Abstract: A method of administering a metered dry powder combined dose of finely divided dry medication powders is disclosed, wherein said method comprises providing a relative motion between a nozzle of a dry powder inhaler and a dose bed carrying said combined dose of finely divided dry medication powder intended for delivery by the dry powder inhaler, the combined dose comprises metered quantities of at least two medicaments separately deposited on the dose bed, the relative motion causing the nozzle to pass over the combined dose for a simultaneous or sequential delivery of the medicaments during the course of a single suction of air.

  • Publication number: 20080202630
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for exact metering and volumetric filling of dry powder medicament doses into preformed containers, which are adapted for administration by a dry powder inhaler. The filling apparatus includes at least a bulk powder source, a feeding chamber, and a receptacle providing the volume for a specified load mass of dry powder. The bulk powder source releases a portion of powder discontinuously to the feeding chamber, but is disconnected from the feeding chamber and receptacle during the filling operation. The filling apparatus further presents a plane surface in contact with the movable feeding chamber and provides a hard-wearing, low friction coating for reducing dynamic friction and powder retention.

  • Publication number: 20070101991
Abstract: A method based on an Air-razor tool is disclosed thereby providing improved release and dispersal into air of a dose of medication powder. When air is sucked through a suction tube, particles of a powder dose, made available to the suction tube, are gradually released and dispersed into a stream of air entering the suction tube. The gradual release and dispersal is produced by a relative motion introduced between the suction tube and the dose. The high velocity air going into the suction tube inlet provides plenty of shearing stress and inertia energy as the flowing air hits the leading point of the dose. This powder Air-razor method, created by the shearing stress and inertia of the air stream, is so powerful that the particles of the powder adjacent to the inlet of the moving suction tube are released and subsequently entrained in the air stream going through the suction tube.

  • Publication number: 20060005832
Abstract: A medicament container for carrying a metered, finely divided, dry powder medication dose is disclosed. The medicament container, which is intended for administration by a dry powder inhaler device, constitutes a pod presents a bottom surface acting as a substrate adapted for receiving a metered medication dose. The metered dose, carried by the pod, is protected from foreign matter, particularly moisture, after a sealing of the pod with a high barrier seal foil, which transforms the pod into a high barrier container. Furthermore the pod is formed such that the pod sealing foil can be slit open from a point of penetration at a first pod end to a point of exit at a second pod end by a opener set in motion relative to the pod.

  • Publication number: 20050287078
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for improving the powder output, i.e. the emitted medication dose, from a dry powder inhaler device by minimizing the powder retention inside the device. Also therapeutic efficacy of the metered medication dose is hereby improved. It is found that adding a smaller amount of excipient than would be necessary in an ordered mixture, to a metered dose of an API formulation raises the emitted API dose when the dose is inhaled together with the excipient.

  • Publication number: 20050211244
Abstract: A dry powder medicament preparation is disclosed. Also methods of forming and loading metered doses of the preparation into dose containers intended for insertion into a dry powder inhaler are disclosed. The preparation is adapted for a dose forming process, which may be based on volumetric filling or electro-dynamic deposition of the powder particles, such that a metered dose of the preparation is characterized by having at least one load of held-together particles joined in a macrostructure of predefined dimensions and presenting an intended mechanical strength. The pharmacologically active ingredient presents at least 50% by mass of particles in a typical aerodynamic diameter range from 1 to 5 ?m. Furthermore, a dose thus formed is then loaded into a high barrier container.

  • Patent number: 6892727
Abstract: A device and an arrangement are disclosed, which create a powder Air-razor, which into an inhalation air volume de-aggregates and disperses a finely divided medication powder. The powder is generally loaded onto a dosing member intended for use with an inhaler. By sucking air through a mouthpiece connected to a nozzle, particles of the load of powder are gradually de-aggregated, dispersed and continuously released into the sucked air during a defined interval. The gradual de-aggregation and dispersal of the medication powder is generated by a relative motion introduced between the nozzle and the dosing member. The powder is generally loaded onto a larger area than the area of the air nozzle inlet. The nozzle may be positioned outside the dose area until an air stream has begun to flow into the nozzle by suction of air in an inhaling operation.
