Patents Assigned to Media IP, LLC
  • Patent number: 9595300
Abstract: A system and a method are disclosed for on-screen display that indicates to the user the current point in the playback of the video within the context of the chapter delineations. The user can access a chapter selection feature that presents a preview image from each chapter along with a timeline representing the video, and an indication on the timeline of where the chapters fall along the timeline. Alternatively, short video segments replace the still images as representing the chapters for some or all of the chapters. The user can select a chapter in which to resume playing the video by selecting one of the images or video segments.

  • Patent number: 8977783
Abstract: A system and a method are disclosed for quickly and securely transferring media files to an SD card from a kiosk. The kiosk includes a customer interface module for receiving a selection of a media file to transfer, a transaction module for accepting payment, a media file processing module for preparing the media file to be written to the SD card, and a high-speed secure SD card writer that can write to both an unsecure area and a secure area of the SD card. All data is written to the unsecure area before data is written to the secure area to improve speed. Optionally, the kiosk includes a firmware update module for distributing firmware updates through the SD cards, and the ability to play previews to attract customers and entertain them while transferring media files to the SD card.

  • Patent number: 8942549
Abstract: A system (and method and computer readable medium) are disclosed for configuring a digital media device to resume playback of content stopped at a first digital media playback device to resume at a second digital media playback device. The configuration detects a stop in play of content stored on a digital media storage device and determines digital media playback preference selections for the content played on the first digital media playback device. The configuration generates a playback preference file and determines a stop location for content, the stop location corresponding to a resume point for the content on the second media playback device. The configuration writes the playback preference file and the stop location to the digital media storage device.

  • Patent number: 8898803
Abstract: A disclosed system, method and computer readable storage medium includes downloading digital media content from a kiosk to a flash media or other secured portable memory or drive. User service information is also downloaded from the kiosk to the flash media that identifies a streaming service from which the user may also receive content. When the flash media is connected to a playback device, if the device is not connected to a network, the content is played back from the flash media. If the playback device is connected to a network, the streaming service is accessed using the user service information, and the streaming service streams the content to the playback device. In one implementation, the streamed content is of a higher quality (e.g., a high definition version) of the content that was downloaded to the flash media from the kiosk.

  • Patent number: 8775827
Abstract: A system (and method) to update content of a secure area of a secure digital (SD) card is disclosed. The system performs a first authenticated key exchange to access the secure area of the secure digital memory. The system reads content from the secure area in response to successful performance of the first authenticated key exchange. The system modifies the content in a memory of a computer system. The system performs a second authenticated key exchange to access the secure area of the secure digital card in preparation to write to the secure area of the secure digital memory. The system then writes modified content to the secure area of the secure digital memory in response to successful performance of the second authenticated key exchange.

  • Patent number: 8745749
Abstract: A system (and a method) are disclosed for generating a virtual secure digital (SD) card. One embodiment detects an SD card and reads a media key block and media identification for the SD card. The system stores the media key block and the media identification. The system creates a file system for secure data on a storage device for storage of secure data corresponding to a secure data area of the SD card and creates a file system for user data on the storage device for storage of user data corresponding to a user data area of the SD card. In addition, the system uses the virtual secure digital (SD) card. The system determines if the virtual SD card is provisioned and provisions it if not. The system accesses the data stored in the secure area of the provisioned virtual SD card. The system extracts the data from the secured area of the provisioned virtual SD card.
