Abstract: A novel derivative of benzoic acid, 2-(2-thenoyloxy)-benzoic acid of formula (I) ##STR1## and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof with alkali and alkali-earth metals and with basic amino acids such as lysine, arginine and histidine are valuable antiinflammatory and analgesic agents.They may be prepared by reacting acetylsalicylic acid with a reactive derivative of 2-thiophenecarboxylic acid.The compounds of the invention may be formulated with conventional pharmaceutically acceptable carriers or diluents, to provide a pharmaceutical composition.
