Patent number: 12226709Abstract: A simulated ice cream dispenser for dispensing a simulated ice cream product includes a receptacle for receiving a simulated ice cream product to be dispensed and at least one rotating arm member rotatably configured with respect to the receptacle and including at least one flap extending from the at least one rotating arm member. A handle member including at least one engaging member engages the at least one rotating arm member for rotating the at least one rotating arm member when the handle transitions between first and second positions. In the first position, the at least one rotating arm member is positioned such that the at least one flap extending from the at least one rotating arm member is positioned within the receptacle for supporting a simulated ice cream product within the receptacle.Type: GrantFiled: September 15, 2022Date of Patent: February 18, 2025Assignee: Melissa & Doug, LLCInventors: Brett Almstead, Rachel Belter, Gavin Jin, Wingo Siu, Steve Wysocki, Matt Burtonwood

Patent number: 12161947Abstract: A play structure is formed from flexible struts supporting a fabric. The struts are inserted through pockets along the edges of the fabric. The struts are joined together by connectors at apexes of the structure. The struts form an upper frame and a lower frame. The upper and lower frames are connected by battens. The struts and battens hold the fabric in a selected shape, such as a sailboat. The battens are formed from flat, flexible members that are bent about their longitudinal axis to form a C-shaped cross section. Ends of the battens are inserted into curved batten receivers on the connectors. When a downward force is applied, the upper frame is pressed toward the lower frame. The battens bend and flatten to resiliently allow the structure to collapse. When the force is relieved, the battens resiliently resume their curved shape, restoring the structure to its original configuration.Type: GrantFiled: July 1, 2021Date of Patent: December 10, 2024Assignee: Melissa and Doug, LLCInventors: Sofia Dumery, Brett K. Patent number: 12157069Abstract: A toy that simulates a stand mixer provides users, for example, children with the experience of preparing foods. The mixer includes a base shaped to sit on a horizontal surface. A vertical member extends from the base and holds an extension that extends over a portion of the base. A bowl is sized to fit on the base below the extension. The extension includes a semicircular clip aligned with a semicircular slot on the extension. The mixer includes interchangeable tools, such as a whisk, a dough hook, or a paddle blade. The clip and the extension define a circular space to hold a handle of the tool and allow the tool to spin, simulating the mixing action of a stand mixer. The clip flexes away from the extension to allow one tool to be removed and another tool to be connected.Type: GrantFiled: February 9, 2022Date of Patent: December 3, 2024Assignee: Melissa & Doug, LLCInventors: Brett K. Patent number: 12083446Abstract: A toy simulating a selectable beverage container may include a rotatable spindle having an axis of rotation arranged horizontally, a band connected with the spindle and arranged to wind onto and off the spindle, and a spigot arranged around at least a portion of the spindle, wherein the spigot comprises one or more openings arranged to allow the band to extend downward from the spindle. Rotation of the spindle in a first direction causes the band to unwind from the spindle and to extend from the spigot. A second band may be attached to another side of the spindle such that rotation of the spindle in a second direction causes the second band to extend down from the spindle.Type: GrantFiled: August 17, 2022Date of Patent: September 10, 2024Assignee: Melissa & Doug, LLCInventors: Brett Almstead, George Lemoine, Matt Burtonwood, Wingo Siu, Eugene Wang

Patent number: 11766624Abstract: A toy for simulating the dispensing of a beverage. The toy includes a bench decorated to represent a beverage dispenser, such as an espresso machine. The toy also includes a simulated filter basket. The filter basket has a handle, a disc receiver and a support ring. The handle and disc receiver are rotatably connected with the ring so that, when the handle is rotated, the handle and disc receiver rotate about the horizontal axis with respect to the ring. One or more discs shaped to rest in the disc receiver are provided. Each disc has a decoration on one face showing a material used to create a beverage, for example, ground coffee, and a second face decorated to represent the top surface of a dispensed beverage, for example, a latte. The toy is operated by placing one of the discs in the disc receiver with the face showing the material facing upward. The filter basket is into a slot on the frame and the cup is positioned beneath the disc receiver.Type: GrantFiled: November 19, 2021Date of Patent: September 26, 2023Assignee: Melissa & Doug, LLCInventors: George LeMoine, Matt Burtonwood

Patent number: 10889138Abstract: There is disclosed a book with a front cover formed by a front base layer and a front decorative layer. The front base layer has a first front face portion, a second front face portion, and a front free edge. The front decorative layer is disposed on the second front face portion. The book has a rear cover formed by a rear base layer and a rear free edge. A binding layer extends across the rear base layer and along the first face portion of the front base layer cover. The binding layer is adhered with the rear base layer and the first face portion so that the front decorative layer extends from the front free edge and across the second front face portion. An edge of the binding layer abuts an edge of the front decorative layer. This arrangement eliminates a free edge between along the front cover of the book. The book includes one or more pages disposed between the front and rear covers. The pages each include respective page base layers and each base layer including a page binding edge.Type: GrantFiled: September 10, 2019Date of Patent: January 12, 2021Assignee: Melissa & Doug, LLCInventors: Lyndall Carvell Fry, Ayokunle S.
