Publication number: 20040258053Abstract: The present invention relates to telecommunications devices, systems and methods for providing improved performance over long latency communications links. Some embodiments selectively pre-fetch and transmit information over the link using improved protocol and pre-fetch mechanisms. One system includes a first gateway (430) adapted to communicate with a client (410), the first gateway including a processor coupled to a storage medium. The storage medium includes code for receiving a request for retrieving a web object, code for forwarding the request to a second gateway (440) over the long latency link, and code for receiving a pre-fetch announcement and response data for the web object from the second gateway. The pre-fetch announcement is received prior to receiving the response data.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 16, 2004Publication date: December 23, 2004Applicant: Mentat Inc.Inventors: Jerome D. Patent number: 6654344Abstract: According to the present invention, a technique for controlling information flow in TCP connections over a wireless wide area network is provided. In an exemplary embodiment, the present invention provides methods and systems for controlling the rate that information flows over a TCP connection to an Xpress Transport Protocol (herein “XTP”) connection, for example. Embodiments can determine those connections likely to use relatively large amounts of system resources and apply flow control techniques to these connections.Type: GrantFiled: May 6, 1999Date of Patent: November 25, 2003Assignee: Mentat Inc.Inventors: Jerome D. Patent number: 6584083Abstract: According to the present invention a telecommunications method for providing transport of packetized information over large distances. The method includes providing a bi-directional flow of information using a connection over a satellite network. The method uses a gateway, which translates the information using the TCP protocol into information using a satellite protocol, which is suitable for transmission of such information over the satellite network.Type: GrantFiled: February 2, 1999Date of Patent: June 24, 2003Assignee: Mentat Inc.Inventors: Jerome D. Toporek, David C. Palter, Jeremy A. McCooey, Marc B. Hasson, Timothy W. Hartrick, Kay A. Guyer

Publication number: 20030079022Abstract: The present invention is directed to systems and methods for efficient and effective multicast delivery over hub and spoke networks, including satellite-based hub and spoke networks. In one embodiment, a method of establishing a multicast connection with a plurality of receiving stations includes receiving with a gateway port a unicast connection, such as a TCP connection, from a sending station, mapping the unicast connection to a multicast connection on a first multicast group IP address, and initiating the multicast connection to a plurality of receiving stations. In alternative embodiments, the multicast connection is established over a satellite link, and/or is unidirectional.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 23, 2001Publication date: April 24, 2003Applicant: Mentat Inc.Inventors: Jerome D. Patent number: 6460085Abstract: According to the present invention, a technique for managing memory for storing information communicated over one or more TCP connections over a wireless wide area network is provided. In an exemplary embodiment, the present invention provides methods and systems for controlling the buffering of information that flows over a TCP connection to an Xpress Transport Protocol (herein “XTP”) connection, for example.Type: GrantFiled: May 6, 1999Date of Patent: October 1, 2002Assignee: Mentat Inc.Inventors: Jerome D.
