  • Patent number: 5617818
Abstract: In an arrangement for mounting a cam shaft and associated valve control elements on an internal combustion engine which has a cylinder head with intake and exhaust valves operated by an overhead cam shaft via rocker arms, the camshaft is supported on a cam shaft housing having spaced bearing blocks rotatably supporting the cam shaft and girders extend between the bearing blocks and have longitudinally extending bores receiving rocker arm support shafts and the girders have recesses wherein rocker arms are pivotally supported on the rocker arm support shaft extending through the recesses. The arrangement requires little mounting space on the cylinder head and the cam shaft housing can be mounted, preassembled with cam shaft and rocker arms, on the cylinder head.

  • Patent number: 5619573
Abstract: The invention provides a vehicle security device with an electronic use-authorization coding arrangement for identifying authorized access to the vehicle. The vehicle security device utilizes an encryption method which operates on the basis of a one-way function, so that it is only absolutely necessary to store secret code information at the key end, specifically in the form of different inverse images of a one-way function. Only the one-way function values corresponding to these inverse images need be present at the vehicle end, a reading-out of which does not permit unauthorized manufacture of a copied key because of the virtual irreversibility of the one-way function.

  • Patent number: 5616965
Abstract: Apparatus for controlling and adjusting an arbitrary number of adjustment units for a motor vehicle includes an electro-pneumatic bus to which are connected in arbitrary sequence, both electrically and pneumatically, all the pertinent adjusting units. The electro-pneumatic bus is composed of at least one pneumatic adjustment pressure line and of at least one electric control signal line which may contain several conductors. While reference data from a central control electronics are applied through the electric control signal line of the electro-pneumatic bus, the individual adjusting units are connected through associated valves in the pneumatic system to the pneumatic adjustment pressure line of the electro-pneumatic bus. The adjusting units preferably are designed to be modular control loops. As a result the pneumatically driven adjusting members units not only two positions, but also they may be set and controlled in quasi-analogue manner.

  • Patent number: 5613478
Abstract: The invention relates to a device for controlling the air flow of a supercharged internal combustion engine with a supercharger to deliver charge air from a suction line located upstream of the supercharger through a charge air line located downstream of the supercharger to the internal combustion engine. The suction line includes an intake and a recirculating line with a recirculating valve located between the charge air line and the suction line. The recirculating line between the recirculating valve and the suction line is formed by a line section that terminates in the suction line of the supercharger downstream of the intake.

  • Patent number: 5613754
Abstract: The headlight has a reflector which is mounted inside a casing for swiveling about a swivel axis extending approximately in a horizontal center plane of the reflector, close to the apex region of the latter. The front edge, pointing in the light emission direction, of the reflector has an at least approximately circular arc shape in planes at right angles to the swivel axis and the center point thereof is arranged at least approximately on the swivel axis. The casing has a part whose edge pointing opposite to the light emission direction adjoins the front edge of the reflector and, in planes at right angles to the swivel axis, likewise has an at least approximately circular arc shape, and whose center point is arranged at least approximately on the swivel axis. Because of this design the gap between the casing part edge and the front edge of the reflector can be kept small, since when the reflector makes a swiveling movement about the swivel axis, the gap varies only slightly or not at all.

  • Patent number: 5611606
Abstract: A brake-pressure control device for a hydraulic multi-circuit brake system provides for brake-pressure generation, in addition to a brake unit, hydraulic regulating cylinders with electromotively drivable pistons. By electronic activation of the cylinders, the wheel brakes can be activated even without the cooperation of the driver. In the regulating cylinders of the front-wheel brakes, the pistons have a basic position, out of which brake-pressure build-up and reduction strokes can be executed. The pistons of the regulating cylinders of the rear-wheel brakes have a basic position which corresponds to the largest volume of the outlet-pressure spaces. The regulating cylinders are equipped with electronic position transmitters. A sensor whose output signal measures the expected value of the vehicle deceleration with which the driver wishes to brake is also provided.

  • Patent number: 5612876
Abstract: A device for detecting seat occupancy in a motor vehicle, especially for inhibiting airbag release when a seat is unoccupied, is provided. A seat occupancy sensor has a front sensing region and a rear sensing region, which can be evaluated separately. In this way, it is possible to determine whether the front seat passenger is in a sitting position close to the front seat edge of the seat cushion, which reduces the protective effect of the airbag. This can possibly be indicated visually or audibly. As a further measure, the inhibiting of an airbag release can be provided in the case of an incorrect sitting position. The seat occupancy sensor can be a resistive membrane pressure sensor.

  • Patent number: 5607220
Abstract: A headlight has a housing and a reflector arranged in the housing adjustably by an adjusting screw. An indicating device controls the setting of the reflector and has a movable indicating part which follows turning of the adjusting screw and a substantially stationary indicating part arranged outside of the housing. The substantially stationary indicating part is arranged on a guide so that it is difficult to displace. In other words, the substantially stationary indicating part can be displaced to assume a base setting and in its set position is fixed. However, during travels of the vehicle, it no longer displaces on the guide under the action of vibrations and other influences. The ability of the substantially stationary indicating part to be difficult to displace can be provided for example by arranging of the substantially stationary indicating part on the guide with a slight press fit.

  • Patent number: 5604407
Abstract: A method and device for controlling vehicle interior lighting as a function of certain lighting-relevant states, in which the respective turning-on or turning-off process takes place with dimming. The dimming parameters, such as turning-on or turning-off dimming time or desired final brightness, are selected in advance as a function of the vehicle state that activated the control process, which permits a highly variable and situation-specific lighting control. The lighting control unit, depending on signals from a sensor group and according to a program stored in a program memory, controls a lighting device through a controllable switch.
