Patents Assigned to Merit Abrasive Products, Inc.
  • Patent number: 5871399
Abstract: In one embodiment, a support member on an abrasive wheel has (a) an annular surface which fixedly supports (as by epoxy) a plurality of flaps in a partially overlapping relationship between successive flaps and (b) a central hole for receiving a mandrel which rotates the wheel. Each flap has on one of its surfaces abrasive particles facing outwardly from the annular surface. Each flap defines an acute angle with the annular surface and preferably extends at its opposite axial ends beyond the axial positions of support by such support surface to obtain a fixed positioning of the flaps relative to the support surface even at the axial positions beyond the axial ends of such annular surface. In a second embodiment, the flaps are disposed on the annular support surface in a tighter relationship than in the first embodiment so that each flap contacts adjacent flaps along a portion of its length.

  • Patent number: 5722881
Abstract: An abrasive wheel is partially defined by a support member and by a plurality of abrasive flaps on such member. A hole is disposed centrally in the support member to receive a mandrel for rotating the wheel. The support member has at its radial periphery an annular surface with a constant radius at progressive positions in the annular direction. The flaps are fixedly supported (as by epoxy) on the annular surface in a partially overlapping relationship between successive pairs of flaps. Each of the flaps has abrasive particles on one of its surfaces. Each of the flaps is disposed on the annular surface of the support member with the abrasive particles facing outwardly from such support surface. Each of the flaps defines an acute angle with the annular surface and extends at its opposite axial ends beyond the axial positions of support by such support surface.

  • Patent number: 4439907
Abstract: An abrasive disc includes a rotatable sheet. Abrasive particles are disposed on a first side of the sheet to provide an abrasive action. Coupled to the sheet means are (1) a first portion defining at least one internal thread in spaced relationship to the opposite surface of the sheet for threaded coupling with an externally threaded mandrel, (2) a second portion extending from the first portion along the opposite surface of the sheet and providing a transmittal of force from the first portion and (3) a third portion extending from the second portion into coupled relationship with the sheet and receiving the transmitted force and providing a force for driving the sheet means. The first portion of the coupling defines a boss disposed on the opposite surface of the sheet in spaced relationship to the sheet and having an opening operative as a single-turn internal thread.

  • Patent number: 4285171
Abstract: An abrasive pack for use with an elongated hub having a plurality of spaced slots each extending along the length of the drum and with a plurality of the abrasive packs each extending outwardly from the drum and each positioned adjacent an individual one of the slots, each pack including a plurality of abrasive flaps of abrasive material stacked together to form a pack, the abrasive flaps each including a plurality of slits located periodically along the length of the flaps and with each slot extending partially along the height of the flap for increasing the flexibility of the flaps to bending and twisting, an attachment member means having an end portion and a loop portion; a supporting strip positioned adjacent the sides of the end portion of the attachment member to support and retain the end portions; the supporting strip including a plurality of slits located periodically along the length of the strip and with each slit extending partially along the height of the strip for increasing the flexibility of

  • Patent number: 4080714
Abstract: A flexible polishing drum segment for use with a polishing or grinding hub. The segment comprises a plurality of abrasive flaps of uniform size and shape, joined together along a common edge to a metal strip. The metal strip comprises first and second, substantially flat plate sections extending parallel to one another in surface-to-surface abutment. One of the plate sections is longer than the other and it is to this longer plate section that the packet is joined. The first and second plate section are integral with and joined together by a root element which is generally circular in configuration. A core is located within the root element to substantially fill the entire volume thereof.
