  • Patent number: 6021990
Abstract: A seat adjustment assembly for driving a vehicle seat forwardly and rearwardly within a cab of a vehicle includes a pair of lead screws which are driven by cables from a single motor. The lead screws engage a nut runner, and the nut runner is fixed to the lower track. The lead screws are fixed to the upper track, and when the lead screws rotate, the nut runner causes the lead screw to move axially. This thus causes the upper track relative to the lower track, and move the seat. The adjustment assembly is a modular unit which can be attached as an pre-assembled to the remainder of the vehicle seat. The housings incorporated into this arrangement are staked together, such that separate retaining members such as bolts are eliminated.

  • Patent number: 6010190
Abstract: A vehicle seat assembly includes a seat back pivotally supported with respect to a seat bottom. The seat bottom is moveable between a generally horizontal position and a generally upright position and the seat back is moveable between a generally horizontal and upright position. The seat assembly is attached to the vehicle by a mounting assembly. The mounting assembly includes a locking device mounted on an upper track that moves relative to a lower track. The locking device moves between a locked position where the upper track cannot move with respect to the lower track and an unlocked position where the upper track can move with respect to the lower track. A release member is used to move the locking device between the locked and unlocked positions. A bypass member is supported on the second track and can be rotated independently from the release member.

  • Patent number: 6007039
Abstract: The present invention relates generally to a fastener used for connecting a first link member to a second link member in a linkage assembly. The second link member includes a pair of aligned apertures and a slot located transversely between the apertures. The first link member includes an aperture at a first end that is designed to be received in the slot located in the second link member. The fastener has a centering post at a distal end and a head portion at a proximal end with a self-tapping portion located between the head portion and the centering post. The aperture in the first link member is aligned with the apertures in the second link member and the fastener is inserted through the apertures until the self-tapping portion contacts the first link member. Thereafter, rotation of the fastener in a first direction taps the self-tapping portion of the fastener through the aperture in the first link member.

  • Patent number: 5941494
Abstract: A vehicle seat assembly includes a seat bottom and a seat back supported for movement relative to the seat bottom such that seat position can be adjusted forwardly or rearwardly with respect to the vehicle. A mounting assembly mounts the seat to a vehicle structure and includes a first track, a second track supported for movement relative to the first track with the seat bottom being supported on the second track for movement with the second track, and an actuator for selectively controlling the movement of the second track with respect to the first track. A locking assembly is moveable between a locked position where the locking assembly prevents relative movement between the first and second tracks and an unlocked position where the second track is movable relative to the first track. The locking assembly includes a rod, a retainer, and a nut. The rod defines a longitudinal axis of rotation and is fixed to the second track for movement therewith.

  • Patent number: 5924668
Abstract: A vehicle seat lift mechanism includes a motor assembly that is used to adjust the height position of the vehicle seat. The motor assembly includes a motor shaft that is maintained within a housing that includes a damper member that is deformed during the assembly process. The damper member eliminates axial play within the motor assembly. The motor shaft includes rounded contours on the ends of the shaft that interact with disk-like bearing plates to effectively eliminate friction during motor operation.

  • Patent number: 5918846
Abstract: A vehicle seat mounting assembly includes a locking device mounted on an upper track that moves relative to a lower track. The mounting device includes a plurality of locking pawls that engage one or more slots on the lower track so that the upper track, and the seat, are maintained in a fixed position relative to the lower track. The locking device includes a first release bracket for disengaging the locking device and adjusting the position of the seat. Activation of the first release bracket causes simultaneous movement of a seat position indicator. The seat position indicator remains stationary relative to the lower track in the event that a second release bracket is used to disengage the locking device. When the second release bracket is used, the position indicator serves to provide for automatic repositioning of the seat into its last position before activation of the second release lever.
