  • Patent number: 9738917
Abstract: A biological indicator for determining the effectiveness of a sterilization process is disclosed having a package and carrier integral therewith. The package includes a first sheet and a second sheet having a bottom portion, side portions and a top portion. The first and second sheets are joined together generally along a periphery of the first and second sheets by a peelable adhesive. A carrier having a plurality of spores thereon for determining the effectiveness of a sterilization process is attached to the package between the first and second sheets and at least a portion of the resealable adhesive. The package may be opened and subsequently partially or fully closed to enclose the carrier.

  • Patent number: 8875586
Abstract: A method and a gas flow meter for measuring gas flow. A cylinder is supported in the flow meter with a horizontal orientation. A piston is disposed movably within the cylinder, the piston having a surface which forms a clearance seal with a surface of the cylinder. The piston may have a low-friction coating such as diamond-like carbon. A gas flow to be measured is received at a gas inlet, and directed to the cylinder so as to move the piston within the cylinder. The gas flow is directed by valves and conduits alternately to the two ends of the cylinder, for measuring the gas flow in both directions of the cylinder. From the detected movement of said piston electrical signals representative of the gas flow are generated.

  • Patent number: 5760297
Abstract: A system for measuring acid concentration in an alkylation process by repeatedly measuring the density, viscosity or velocity of sound through a sample over time as volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are allowed to escape and the sample stratifies. A partial vacuum can be used to accelerate dissipation of light VOCs from the sample. A processor applies a predetermined function to a series of these sound velocity measurements to compute the acid concentration in the sample. The function can be determined by statistical regression against sound velocity measurements taken from samples having known acid concentrations. The system can be used either to generate a read-out to facilitate manual control of the alkylation process, or to automatically regulate the acid feed rate to maintain a desired acid concentration.

  • Patent number: 5396814
Abstract: A method of hot tapping a pipe for installing a carrier for use with a sonic flowmeter transducer includes the steps of welding an alignment fixture to the pipe, attaching a drilling device to the alignment fixture, drilling a hole in the pipe, removing the drilling device and replacing it with a cleaning assembly to remove metal shavings, replacing the cleaning assembly with an extraction assembly which is used to remove the drilling device, removing the extraction assembly and installing an insertion assembly to which a carrier is removably attached. The insertion assembly is employed to secure the carrier to the alignment fixture. The insertion assembly and the drilling device are then detached from the alignment fixture and are ready for reuse.
