  • Patent number: 4603084
Abstract: A connecting element, such as a bearing shell, is secured to and end of an rticle of manufacture having a large length relative to its diameter, by a combination of fiber strands or belts forming at least one loop, the ends of which form slings or bights which are anchored to the article by the turns of an anchoring winding extending around the article and through the slings or bights. The loop with its slings or bights is made simultaneously with the formation of the anchoring winding. This type of operation is possible because the turns of the anchoring winding hold down the fiber strands or belts as they are doubled-up to form the loop, preferably endless loops.

  • Patent number: 4601367
Abstract: A crash protection structural component is constructed as a hollow sleeve pe body which is open at its ends. The hollow body is made of at least one strand of fiber compound material formed into a netting. The netting is constructed for an irreversible stepwise take-up of energy in response to a shock load or impact, whereby the strand layers delaminate at the strand intersections or junctions of the netting as the strand layers are taking up shearing loads in response to a compression load which is applied to the component in the direction of its longitudinal axis.

  • Patent number: 4594503
Abstract: In scanning an image field, for example an image field radiating infrared diation sensed by an infrared sensor, at least one, preferably two, electronically controlled scanners are used. The respective scanning directions extend perpendicularly relative to each other. Changes in these scanning directions are determined with the aid of a reference signal generator providing horizontal and vertical deviation signals with reference to a central or mean view direction. The central or mean view direction of at least one of the scanners, preferably of both scanners is then varied or corrected in a closed loop feedback circuit in response to the deviation signals so that the central or mean view direction is restored and maintained. Preferably, any horizontal or azimuth scanning deviation from the central or mean viewing direction is corrected by shifting the respective image points stored in a memory in a correction direction in response to the respective horizontal or azimuth deviation signal.

  • Patent number: 4589594
Abstract: The invention relates to a thrust nozzle system, especially for steering a rojectile, having a nozzle arrangement (3) which is fed by a propellant source, for example a gas source. The nozzle system is arranged in a housing having at least one exhaust port (11) provided in the housing, and has a control (14) for steering a thrust jet (18) of the nozzle arrangement through the exhaust port. The invention provides a thrust nozzle system of simple construction which is especially suitable for a high miniaturization, and which permits a flexible thrust impulse forming. For this purpose the thrust nozzle system (2) has a rotating nozzle or a swinging nozzle body (3) which is rotatable relative to the housing about an axis, driven by the propellant, for example by the gas stream (P) from the gas source. The drive of the rotating nozzle body is preferably achieved by an acentric thrust nozzle (10) itself. Due to the low mass and hence low inertia of the nozzle body (3), it may be caused to rotate fast.

  • Patent number: 4589679
Abstract: A safety steering column made of wound fiber-reinforced synthetic material s manufactured economically and simply, yet simultaneously with due regard to its deformation characteristics in response to axial compressive overloading under various operating conditions. For this purpose the steering column is wound as a rotationally symmetrical tubular body having five component integral sections (3, 4, 5, 6, and 7). The component sections (3 and 7) are relatively thick-walled connecting tubes to provide a torque input section and a torque output section provided with connectors (8) for steering wheel hub and for a steering mechanism. An intermediate section (5) of the steering column is a cylindrical, relatively thin-walled tube with a larger diameter (d.sub.2) compared to the connecting sections. Conical transition sections (4 and 6) preferably extend between the intermediate section and the connecting tubes or sections.

  • Patent number: 4587472
Abstract: The levitating force of the levitation magnets of a magnetically levitated ehicle of the linear stator type is controlled for regulating the air gap width (S) between these levitation magnets (2) and a rail track having teeth of uniform, determined width in the travel direction. The control is responsive to the air gap width and, if desired, to the differentiation of the air gap width with respect to time. The control requirements are dependent on the vehicle speed, whereby in the low speed and stopping situations the primary task is a stabilizing one and in higher speed situations the primary task is a good following behavior. For this purpose a steering signal is derived from the output terminals of an induction conductor loop located in the surface of a pole piece of a levitation magnet facing the track teeth. The loop has a width corresponding to the tooth width. The frequency of the signal induced in the loop is directly proportional to the vehicle speed.

  • Patent number: 4585394
Abstract: The blade angle of the blades is adjustable in a rotor for a rotary wing craft by a lever mechanism (13, 14 or 41, 42) secured to the radially inner end of an extension bushing (7; 7.1) or shaft (43). The extension bushing (7; 7.1) or shaft (43) is connected with its radially outer lever (15 or 44) to the blade root (2) or a blade root mounting (39, 50) of a rotor blade in an angular position adjustable manner for adjusting the tracking of the blades. The bushing (7; 7.1) or shaft (43) is adjustable in its angular position relative to the blade root (2) by adjustment screws cooperating with a free end of the lever (15 or 44) which reaches into a gap between two of such adjustment screws (16 or 45) cooperating with counter nuts (17 or 46). By adjusting the angular position of the bushing or shaft with the screws it is possible to assure a uniform tracking among all the blades of a multiblade rotor. Such uniform tracking is desirable if the blades of a rotor are to rotate in the same plane.

  • Patent number: 4577736
Abstract: The invention relates to a tubular member, especially for safety steering columns for motor vehicles, made of wound fiber-reinforced materials. The winding angle of the fibers or fiber belts amounts to essentially .+-.45.degree. relative to the tube's longitudinal axis. For taking up high torsional moments and simultaneously low compressive and buckling or bending loads, the tubular member (1) has an expanded outwardly bulging section (3) extending around the entire circumference of the tubular member. This bulging section is preferably a double conical outward bulge. The fibers (2) cross each other at an angle of essentially 90.degree. even in the region of the outwardly bulging section (3), which means that the winding angle of essentially .+-.45.degree. to the tube's longitudinal axis is maintained in the region of the outwardly bulging section (3).

  • Patent number: 4578303
Abstract: A fiber compound structural component, for example a radio telescope mirr having a curved surface is constructed to have a homogeneous heat expansion characteristic throughout its entire volume. For this purpose a hollow, honeycomb type core is made of the same fiber compound material as the cover layers between which the preassembled core is sandwiched. The core is first assembled by cutting already cured or hardened core elements of a fiber compound material into suitable shape and/or length and then interconnecting these core elements to form the honeycomb type core to have the curved surface as a result of the cutting. The cover layers are secured to the curved core by using so-called prepregs or preimpregnated fiber compound material of the same type as the core elements and curing the cover layers whereby the curing bonds the cover layers to the core. A mold may be used for laminating the cover layers to the core. The mold may be of the same type fiber compound material or of ceramic.

  • Patent number: 4576449
Abstract: A sighting mirror, especially for sighting instruments, includes a stabilng device for stabilizing the mirror position independently of the operating conditions, once the mirror has been trained on a target. A substantial accuracy in the stabilizing is achieved by providing a rough mirror frame stabilization and a fine mirror stabilization independently of the mirror frame stabilization. The fine stabilization is achieved by piezoelectric elements interposed between the mirror frame and the mirror which is pivotally attached to the mirror frame. A gyro provides electrical first control signals for the rough adjustment of the mirror frame, for example by a frame drive motor. The gyro also provides second control signals for the fine adjustment of the mirror by the piezoelectric elements. Movement translation may increase the effect of the piezoelectric elements.

  • Patent number: 4576432
Abstract: An aiming apparatus, for example, for aiming at a target, has an aiming h (11), an ocular unit (13) and a display section (22) between the aiming head and the ocular unit. The display section (22) has, for example, a thermal imager (24) and a cathode ray tube (26, 27) operated by the thermal imager for displaying a thermal image received through a beam splitter. The aiming head (11) and the ocular unit include the required optical elements and an ocular (19). Each section has its respective housing. The housing of the aiming head (11') is rotably interconnected for rotation about its normally vertical axis (30) at least with the thermal imager (24) rotatable about its horizontal axis (23) in a corresponding synchronous rotation, whereby the screen (27) and any image on the screen of the cathode ray tube (26) retain their relationship unchanged even if the aiming head is rotated by a pointer through an azimuth angle. This is so because the aiming head and the thermal imager rotate with the same angles.

  • Patent number: 4571005
Abstract: A wheel, especially a disk wheel has six components, namely, two mirror-setrical hub sections, a wheel rim, two bending resistant wheel disks and a thrust and/or shear resistant body enclosed by the rim, by the two hub sections, and by the two wheel disks whereby metal components and fiber composite material components are bonded to one another to form the wheel. The materials of these components are selected for three purposes, to simplify the construction, to optimize the strength characteristics of the wheel, and to greatly increase the wheel's ability to dampen vibrations. The hub sections and rim are made of metal, the disks are made of fiber compound material and the enclosed body is made of metal or fiber compound material all held together by an adhesive bond. The hub sections have radially extending flanges which intermesh with the radially inner edge of the wheel disks in a multilayer fashion. The thrust and/or shear resistant body has preferably a honeycomb type structure.

  • Patent number: 4564255
Abstract: A strain relief device for a multipole electrical plug connector, is constructed for holding a bunch of conductors either axially or at a right angle to its main axis. The device is also simplified in its structure so that the manufacture of its components and their assembly is facilitated. The device has a cap nut with a radially inwardly extending flange, and a housing with a radially outwardly facing circumferential channel. The housing has a through slot in its wall for temporarily and elastically compressing the housing radially inwardly so that the channel may engage the flange of the cap nut which is then locked in place, but rotatable relative to the housing. The flange either directly or indirectly helps compressing a sealing member in the connector proper. A conductor bundle holder includes a bail which can be secured to the housing in several different positions for holding a bundle of conductors either to extend axially or at an angle out of the housing.
