  • Patent number: 4674874
Abstract: A device for detecting the presence and direction of a pulsating or intensity-modulated laser radiation, in which the direction of radiation is exactly determined measures time intervals. A system with two detector elements is provided, with the first element producing a starting signal immediately when the laser radiation is incident, and the second element producing a stop signal which is delayed in time relative thereto. The second detector element is connected to a plurality of unequally long optical delay lines, each coupled to an optical collecting aperture having a specific orientation and a limited field of sight, with the individual fields of sight overlapping one another.

  • Patent number: 4672205
Abstract: The invention is directed to a method for determining the anomaly portion the output signal of a zero-seeking earth-horizon sensor for a geostationary satellite. The horizon sensor comprises a chopper disk operated with constant frequency, which chopper disk pictures the image of oppositely located earth horizons on a common infrared detector. When the thermal radiation of the two earth horizons is different the anomaly portion contained in the detector output signal can be determined in that the off-course signals are measured for different amplitudes of the chopper disk. Since the anomaly-dependent portion in the detector output signal depends on this chopper amplitude, correcting amounts can be determined for the measured values corresponding to the anomaly portion.

  • Patent number: 4672220
Abstract: For reading-out an opto-electric detector constructed as an array of rows, the signal contents of several detector elements of a row section of a row located within a "window" are added up. The "window" is advanced in steps by the provision that the signal content of the last detector element located in the "window" is subtracted from the respective sum signal of all detector elements located in the "window" and the signal content of the detector element located in front of the "window" is added to the sum signal.

  • Patent number: 4667104
Abstract: A method and apparatus for deriving an off-course signal for an orbiting th satellite, preferably a geostationary satellite, by an earth-horizon sensor. The earth-horizon sensor operates in the infrared range and comprises, in the focal plane of an input lens, a chopper disk, which is periodically reciprocated with a determined chopper frequency (f) and which has a diameter corresponding to the image of the earth, and a detector (1) receiving the periodically interrupted radiation of opposite earth rims. The output signal of the detector is demodulated synchronously with the chopper frequency (f) and corrected with a correction signal corresponding to different temperatures of opposite earth rims (earth anomaly).

  • Patent number: 4665314
Abstract: A method and a circuit for processing the signals of an earth-horizon sen of a circularly orbiting earth satellite. The earth-horizon sensor operates in the infrared range and includes, in the focal plane of an input lens, a chopper disk which is periodically reciprocated with a determined chopper frequency (f) and has a diameter corresponding to the image of the earth, as well as a detector (1) receiving the periodically interrupted light radiation of oppositely located earth rims. The output signal of the detector (1) is demodulated synchronously with the chopper frequency (f) in order to derive an off-course signal. In order to suppress the influence of the earth anomaly, the amplified output signal of the detector (1) is additionally synchronously demodulated with the doubled chopper frequency (2f), according to the invention, in order to produce a symmetry signal.

  • Patent number: 4646991
Abstract: A controllable flow deflection system for guiding the flow of a fluid medium in a desired discharge direction includes a steered deflection device mounted in a body or support member. The deflecting device includes a rotatable element containing at least one outlet opening for discharging the fluid medium which flows to the element from a reservoir. A driving and braking device is connected to the rotatable element. The one or more outlet openings are arranged so that the discharged fluid medium does not cause any torque on the rotatable element, or a torque is developed from a combination of two torque vectors symmetrical with respect to the axis of rotation of the element. Such a system may be used in a thrust system for steering a flying body member, in a secondary injection system, or in a hot gas motor, such as a vane motor.

  • Patent number: 4634399
Abstract: A coil-shaped body is used to transmit torque between shafts spaced axially apart and with the shaft axes disposed angularly to one another. Such an arrangement is used in a bent steering column for a safety steering mechanism. The coil-shaped body is formed by winding a plastics material impregnated fiber strand around an axially extending mandrel so that the layers of the strand are in crossing relation. The crossing superposed layers form lattice bars between the crossover points of the body. The lattice rods have a radial dimension greater than the length of the strands. The angle of the lattice rods relative to the axis of the coil-shaped body is greater than 55.degree..

  • Patent number: 4611616
Abstract: An axially semisymmetrical supersonic air intake comprises a semiconical reaction engine displacer body having an air gap between the flat bottom of the air intake of the displacer body in the outer contour adjacent thereto of a missile or aircraft. The body transmits the boundary flow of the missile or aircraft and is bridged by a boundary layer plow. The body has a circumferentially distributed aperture on its surface in a zone of external normal shock which is produced during the subcritical conditions oscillating back and forth by which communication is established with the bleed air channel. The bleed air channels lead openings in the body to the flat bottom and may be subdivided by partitions in the interior of the body into individual parallel passages. The channels are formed by semiconical air baffles which are coaxial with the displacer body and taper in a direction opposite to the taper of the displacer body.
