Abstract: An insulation system is disclosed for installing insulation in existing metal buildings. The system includes extruded hat-shaped support members having a central wall portion mounted on the lower flange of the building purlins with screw fasteners or the like. The support member provides oppositely extending shelf portions on which are mounted bridging members. The bridging members are slotted or notched at their ends and fit over the shelf portions for mounting. Insulation is positioned over the shelf portions and is supported along its sides by said shelf portions. In one embodiment, rigid insulation panels have ends which fit into channels on the bridging members. In another embodiment, faced insulation blankets extend over the bridging members and are supported at intervals along their length by the bridging members and along their sides by the shelf portions. In such latter embodiment, strips of adhesive secure the facing of the blanket to the bridging members and support members.

Abstract: A method and apparatus is disclosed for installing insulation in metal buildings and the like. The apparatus includes a grid supported from the upper flanges of the purlins of the metal building and providing struts and shelves to support an insulation blanket below the upper flanges of the purlins. The shelves support the blanket along its edges and the struts support the blanket at intervals along its length. In accordance with the method, the grids are assembled and then pushed out along the purlins and are dropped down between the purlins while being supported from the upper flanges thereof. With such method, it is not necessary for workmen to work out along the purlins and the grids can be installed while the workmen stand on an end platform on panels of a partially completed roof.
