Abstract: A static unbalance-type balance shaft for canceling unbalance forces of an engine includes a principal bearing journal located adjacent a first end of the shaft and an outrigger bearing journal located adjacent the second end of the shaft. A first counterweight is positioned adjacent one side of the principal journal and a second counterweight is positioned on the other side of the principal journal. The balance shaft has a small third outrigger counterweight or other source of unbalance positioned adjacent the outrigger journal for maintenance of the shaft's Effective Plane of Static Unbalance within the length of the principal journal while allowing the composite center of gravity of the first and second counterweights to be shifted away from the outrigger unbalance, for the purpose of improving the stability of shaft operating shape at the outrigger journal end of the shaft across the entire range of operating speeds.

Abstract: An exhaust manifold for a vehicle engine constructed of two stamped halves joined together along a longitudinal weld seam to form a compactly configured manifold. The assembled manifold includes exhaust tubes in communication with the combustion chambers of the engine and a collector chamber for directing exhaust from the tubes to the exhaust system. The individual exhaust tubes are configured for a compact installation and the collection chamber facilitates efficient flow of exhaust through the manifold.

Abstract: A static unbalance-type balance shaft for rotating machinery such as a vehicle engine includes a longitudinal axis, a first bearing surface disposed away from a first end and a second bearing surface located adjacent a second end. A first balance shaft is disposed between the first end and the first bearing surface, a second balance weight is located adjacent the second bearing surface. A third balance weight is located adjacent the second bearing surface. A connector portion overlaps and extends between the second balance weight and the third balance weight. The third balance weight is positioned on the opposite side of the longitudinal axis from the first and the second balance weights. The connector portion has a substantially I-beam shaped cross section.
Abstract: An accessory carrier assembly includes a reversible shank manufactured of a substantially square first portion and a substantially square second portion such that the first segment is preferably angled relative to the second segment. The first portion is sized to engage a first hitch receiver and the second portion is sized to engage a second hitch receiver. To attach the accessory carrier to the reversible shank, the first segment is located in amounting assembly either with or without the bushings depending on which type of hitch receiver is available. The accessory carrier can also be pivoted by removal of a single pin. The angle of the reversible shank forms a stop that contacts the accessory carrier to prevent over rotation of the accessory carrier and possible contact with the ground.

Abstract: An exhaust manifold for a vehicle engine and a manufacturing process to prevent corrosion of the manifold during shipping and storage. The manifold includes a manifold body having a plurality of arms corresponding to the exhaust ports of the engine and a collector chamber for directing the exhaust gasses to the vehicle exhaust system. Attached to the ports of the body are flanges to facilitate connection of the manifold to the engine. The flanges are manufactured of carbon steel and includes apertures to receive mounting flanges. To prevent corrosion of the flanges, the flanges are subject to a process of ferritic nitro carburization which inhibits the formation of iron-oxide.

Abstract: These forged articles are useful as connecting rods. The bushing is assembled during the forging operation of the powder metal connecting rod. This reduces the number of manufacturing operations required to process a powder metal article. The main components of this article are a sintered powder metal perform and preferably a bronze bushing. The bronze bushing is inserted in the bore of the sintered perform of a connecting rod and thereafter forged in during forging then heated to provide bonding between the bushing and connecting rod.
Abstract: An exhaust manifold for a combustion engine which includes a flow deflector member to redirect the flow of exhaust through the catalytic converter in the exhaust system. The deflector member is in the shape of a ring conforming to the inner diameter of the manifold for secure mounting therein. The deflector ring has a center opening and an inwardly angled deflector wall which directs flow through the opening. Exhaust flow along the walls of the manifold is redirected inwardly by the deflector ring to optimize flow distribution through the exhaust system.

Abstract: A hanger for use with a conveyor in a garment making plant or the like for holding limp sheet material includes a hanger rod for attachment to a conveyor trolley and a hanger body carrying, and forming in part, a plurality of grippers, each capable of holding a workpiece unit to the body. Each gripper is made up of a stationary gripping face on part of the hanger body and a grip elememnt supported for movement along a path giving it a wedging action on a work unit inserted in the gripper when the grip element is urged downwardly by the weight of the work unit and its engagement therewith.
