  • Patent number: 5576952
Abstract: The present invention relates to a medical alert distribution system which receives medical information (e.g. blood pressure, blood chemistry test results, etc.) from monitoring units worn by ambulatory patients. The system also receives medical selection and limit parameters from remote system subscriber units (e.g., a unit accessed by a doctor). The system repeatedly compares the medical information received form the ambulatory patients to determine if a selected parameter, as indicated by an asserted in-alert flag, has exceeded the limit parameters received form the remote subscriber units. If exceeded, the system sends a message (e.g., via a wireless paging message) to the system subscriber unit(s) which requested that the particular parameter be continuously compared against the selected limit parameters. Thus, the system selectively filters information and distributes filtered information to a subscriber processing unit by way of communications network.

  • Patent number: 5416695
Abstract: A medical alert system enables an authorized user, such as a doctor, to remotely set selection and limit parameters pertaining to specific medical and geodetic information of an ambulatory patient and thereafter receive updates of that information over a wireless communications network when the parameters have been met. A telemetry device attached to the patient provides an inbound stream of medical and geodetic information to a host computer, which is configured to extract selected portions of that information in response to the parameters provided by a remote processing device via a communications network. Upon completion of the latter process, the host computer transfers the extracted information to the remote processing device over the network, thereby informing the doctor of a medical situation.

  • Patent number: 5291518
Abstract: Linking of radio paging transmitters is accomplished through the utilization of TDM transmission on the same channel as that assigned to the paging service, thus eliminating the necessity of a separate channel for linkage of the remote transmitting sites to a central originating location. For data transmission, real time data is broadcast via a direct RF link to buffer storage at each of the remote transmitting sites, with the data being read out to each of the paging transmitters from the local buffers in a phase-adjusted synchronized fashion under control of sync signals generated at and broadcast from the central originating location. The data transmission rate from the central originating location to the remote sites may be made significantly higher than the radio paging data rate in order to minimize link time to minimize linkage overhead by reducing the amount of time the channel is used for linkage as opposed to paging.
