Publication number: 20030085168Abstract: The invention relates to a filtering device for taking a filtrate sample from liquid matter containing solid particles. The filtering device comprises two filter parts and at least one filtering slot between the filter parts. The filter parts are adapted to move in relation to each other in such a manner that the width of the filtering slot changes when the filter parts move in relation to each other. When taking a sample from a process, the filtering slot between the filter parts is at its smallest, and it is adapted to filter the sample while the liquid matter being measured flows from the process to the measurement. When rinsing the filtering device against the sampling direction, the filter parts are adapted to move away from each other, whereby the filtering slot widens.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 4, 2002Publication date: May 8, 2003Applicant: Metso Field Systems OYInventor: Veikko Kyllonen

Patent number: 6470734Abstract: The invention relates to a method and an arrangement for measuring a fluid. Electromagnetic radiation is used to measure the consistency, flow and/or gas content of a fluid flowing in a process pipe (102). At least two of the measurements are carried out substantially from the same measurement point in the fluid in a measuring tube (202) by utilizing one integrated measuring equipment (200) comprising transmitters and receivers for electromagnetic radiation in order to carry out the aforementioned at least two measurements.Type: GrantFiled: July 1, 1999Date of Patent: October 29, 2002Assignee: Metso Field Systems OyInventors: Pekka Jakkula, Esko Tahkola, Timo Manninen

Patent number: 6427521Abstract: The invention relates to a method and a measuring arrangement for measuring the gas content of a fluid (13). The fluid (13) comprises gas bubbles. In the method, microwave radiation (20) is transmitted through the fluid (13) and a signal (7) indicating the travel time, phase or amplitude of the radiation (20) is formed in a microwave measuring device (16), and a gas measuring equipment (18) determines the gas content of the fluid (13) by means of the signal (7).Type: GrantFiled: July 1, 1999Date of Patent: August 6, 2002Assignee: Metso Field Systems Oy.Inventors: Pekka Jakkula, Ilkka Dahlström, Timo Manninen

Patent number: 6324921Abstract: A diaphragm construction for a process measuring device comprises a sensing element arranged in a functional connection with a process medium to be measured, a part exterior of the process medium, comprising a measuring means, a lever-like transfer element to transmit a force effect exerted on the sensing element to the measuring means, and a diaphragm to isolate the process medium from the exterior part. The transfer element comprises a first rod part arranged to be placed in a process medium flow channel and a second rod part arranged to be placed in a part of the process measuring device exterior of the process. A fixing element is arranged to be placed in connection with the second rod part of the transfer element, the fixing element comprising a supporting portion and a fixing portion, wherein the diaphragm is arranged to be clamped between the fixing portion and the second rod part.Type: GrantFiled: September 17, 1999Date of Patent: December 4, 2001Assignee: Metso Field Systems OyInventors: Matti Hietaranta, Mika Eerola

Patent number: 6317701Abstract: The invention relates to field management in industrial process systems and similar systems. In the invention, maintenance management systems of industrial processes of separate plants located geographically apart from each other are networked in such a way that they may communicate with each other or with a centralized maintenance management server and transmit information on maintenance parameters of field devices of different types. As a result, experience obtained in one industrial process can be transferred to other respective industrial processes and applications. By utilizing this globally collected cumulative information, it is possible to improve and specify the diagnostics of the separate local maintenance systems (6) essentially faster than in case if the local maintenance management system were independent and the diagnostics were changed on the basis of local experience only.Type: GrantFiled: September 4, 1998Date of Patent: November 13, 2001Assignee: Metso Field Systems OyInventors: Jouni Pyötsiä, Harri Cederlöf

Patent number: 6311550Abstract: The invention relates to a method for measuring particles in suspension and a measuring instrument. In the solution the length of each fiber-like particle in suspension is one by one optically measured by a line camera in a thin equilateral capillary tube. The fiber-like particles in particular are imaged by two or more cameras in the capillary tube one or more times for measuring such properties as fiber thickness, wall-thickness and fibrillation.Type: GrantFiled: September 17, 1998Date of Patent: November 6, 2001Assignee: Metso Field Systems OyInventors: Keijo Lehmikangas, Lauri Löytynoja

Patent number: 6298377Abstract: The invention relates to a management of field devices in industrial process systems. A maintenance management system collects status and/or diagnostic data of field devices over a field communication interface in a manner specific for each type of field device. The system processes the collected data and provides condition or event data, e.g. alarms and fault and device condition data to external systems, such as the automation system of a plant, by an open communication method, which is independent of the type of field device and the field communication interface. Such open communication methods are for instance electronic mail, Internet, Intranet, DDE (Dynamic Data Exchange), short message. The data structure of the event data are preferably independent of the type of field device, i.e. it is identical for different types of field device.Type: GrantFiled: September 4, 1998Date of Patent: October 2, 2001Assignee: Metso Field Systems OyInventors: Kari Hartikainen, Tuomo Honkanen

Patent number: 6259527Abstract: The invention relates to an optical measuring arrangement for measuring, particularly for liquid or gaseous substances (103). The measuring arrangement comprises at least one measuring head (104, 106) operating on an optical measuring band, and a measuring head holder (100) comprising a hole (108, 112) for fastening and supporting the measuring head (104, 106). In the hole, the holder (100) comprises an end piece (110) through which the measurement is to be made. On the optical band of the measuring head (104, 106), the end piece (110) is substantially transparent. Furthermore, the end piece (110) separates the measuring head from the substance (103) to be measured disposed in the measuring area (102).Type: GrantFiled: December 18, 1998Date of Patent: July 10, 2001Assignee: Metso Field Systems OyInventors: Arvo Rahikkala, Risto J.
