Abstract: A pulp digester includes a vessel having an inlet, an outlet and a wall extending between the inlet and the outlet, the wall of the vessel having a curved interior surface. The digester includes a screen assembly positioned inside the vessel adjacent to the curved interior surface of the wall for removing liquid from pulp material. The screen assembly is movable relative to the curved interior surface of the vessel wall. The digester includes at least one support element permanently attached to the vessel wall for limiting movement of the screen assembly relative to the curved interior surface of the vessel wall. In certain embodiments, the at least one support, such as a ledge permanently attached to the vessel wall, supports a portion of the screen assembly. The screen assembly may have an inner face that is concave in a horizontal direction and convex in a vertical direction.
Abstract: A method for the preparation of pulp by means of alkaline cooking, in which method spent liquor is transferred to pressurized tanks, and at least one liquor is expanded corresponding to a temperature difference of 1 to 5° C. The generated steam is led to turpentine recovery. Thus, the removal of turpentine and gases dissolved in said liquor is effective, the amount of recovered turpentine increases, and pulp of better washability and higher quality is obtained.

Abstract: A method of improving the efficiency of the multistage washing of pulp, wherein the initial washing of a given batch of pulp is carried out using a gradually diluted, recovered filtrate fraction originating from the washing of the preceding batch of pulp as the washing liquid, prior to the final washing of the pulp batch. In the method, the recovered fraction filtrate is kept stored in such a way that the concentration gradient of dissolved substances is maintained until the fraction is used for washing the following batch of pulp. A further object of the invention is a pulp washing plant, wherein the method according to the invention is carried out in a laboratory-scale test washer and applied to industrial pulp washing plant solutions.
