  • Publication number: 20170174008
Abstract: The tread has a total width W and two main grooves. The main grooves divide the tread into a middle region and edge regions. The middle region has an axial width Lm that is 45% to 70% of the total width W. The volume void ratio of the tread when new is less than 17%. An internal surface extends parallel to the tread surface when new and is in contact radially with the innermost points of the deepest main grooves. The middle part has a plurality of transverse sipes, each of which has a depth at least equal to the depth of the main grooves. The transverse sipes open into the main grooves. The middle region has a volume void ratio when new that is less than half the total volume void ratio of the tread, and at least one circumferential channel appears when the tread becomes part worn.

  • Publication number: 20170166015
Abstract: The tire tread presents a thickness T20 and a sipe (30) having a length and a depth d3o extending into the tread thickness in a direction away from an outer, ground-engaging side of the tread. The sipe articulates between an open configuration and a closed configuration as the tire rotates during tire operation. The sipe has a variable-width W30 extending transverse to the sipe length and transverse to the depth in the open configuration, the variable-width being defined by a pair of opposing sipe sides (34). The variable-width decreases as the depth increases into the tread thickness in a direction away from the outer, ground-engaging side. The opposing sipe sides substantially engage each other at substantially the same time in the closed configuration.

  • Patent number: 9679174
Abstract: A system is provided for dynamically reading data from transponders of tires disposed laterally on a same side of a vehicle. The system includes antennas, a sensor for each antenna, a reader, a controllable switch, and a programmable logic controller. The antennas are arranged to receive data transmitted by the transponders. Each sensor is positioned upstream of an effective reading area covered by a corresponding one of the antennas, and each sensor transmits a signal associated with passage of a tire. The reader is arranged to couple to the antennas in order to read and store data from the transponders. The switch is positioned between the antennas and the reader to provide a selective coupling between the reader and each of the antennas. The controller controls the switch as a function of wheel-passage sensor signals.

  • Patent number: 9677025
Abstract: Elastomer composition having a self-sealing property which can be used in particular as puncture-resistant layer in an inflatable article, based on at least (phr meaning parts by weight per 100 parts of solid elastomer): a blend of at least two solid elastomers, a polybutadiene or butadiene copolymer elastomer, referred to as “elastomer A”, and a natural rubber or synthetic polyisoprene elastomer, referred to as “elastomer B”, the elastomer A: elastomer B ratio by weight being within a range from 10:90 to 90:10; between 30 and 90 phr of a hydrocarbon resin; from 0 to less than 30 phr of filler. Inflatable article, such as a tire, provided with a puncture-resistant layer comprising this elastomer composition; the puncture-resistant layer is advantageously used in combination with an airtight layer, for example based on butyl rubber or TPS elastomer, in order to form, in the inflatable article, an airtight and puncture-resistant laminate.

  • Publication number: 20170157989
Abstract: The tread has a total width W and is provided with circumferential cuts that have a mean depth at least equal to 70 mm and at most equal to the thickness of wearable material. The circumferential cuts divide the tread into a middle region with an axial width Wm of 50% to 80% of the total width W. The middle region has transverse or oblique sipes opening into the circumferential cuts and closing at least in part when they enter the contact patch. The sipes have a depth at least equal to 75% of the depth of the circumferential cuts and delimit elements of material of height equal to the mean depth H of the said sipes and of circumferential length B equal to the mean distance between two sipes. For all the elements of material, the ratio H/B is greater than 0.5 and at most equal to 2.5.

  • Publication number: 20170157876
Abstract: Particular embodiments of the invention concerns methods of forming a retreaded tire with improved tread edge area bonding, and re-treaded tires formed thereby. One embodiment of such methods includes forming an unbonded retreaded tire by arranging a pre-cured tread annularly around an annular tire carcass with a bonding layer arranged there between. The pre-cured tread includes a pair of opposing tread edges laterally-spaced to define a width of the pre-cured tread. The method also includes bonding the tread of the unbonded tire to the tire carcass to form a bonded retreaded tire by sufficiently pressurizing and heating the curing chamber to cure the bonding layer of the unbonded tire, which includes at least partially bonding a pair of laterally-spaced tread edge areas of the pre-cured tread to the tire carcass prior to an intermediate portion of the pre-cured tread located between the pair of laterally-spaced tread edge areas.
