  • Publication number: 20220041185
Abstract: Advanced automotive active-safety systems, in general, and autonomous vehicles, in particular, rely heavily on visual data to classify and localize objects, most notably pedestrians and other nearby cars, to assist the corresponding vehicles maneuver safely in their environment. However, the performance of object detection methods is anticipated to degrade under challenging rainy conditions. Nevertheless, and despite major advancements in the development of deraining approaches, the impact of rain on object detection has largely been understudied, especially in the context of autonomous systems. This disclosure analyzes this problem space and presents an improved system for detecting objects under rainy conditions.

  • Patent number: 11241170
Abstract: A method and apparatus for monitoring arterial properties, including systolic and diastolic pressure levels, of a subject is provided, in which a hardware processor receives and analyzes ballistocardiogram (BCG) data of the subject. A non-transient computer readable medium, accessible by the hardware processor, contains instructions that, when executed by the hardware processor, identify features of the BCG waveform and determine the arterial properties therefrom. For example, a diastolic pressure level may be determined from a time interval between the ‘I’ and ‘J’ peaks of the waveform and a systolic pressure level determined from the amplitude difference between the ‘J’ and ‘K’ peaks of the waveform in combination with the ‘I-J’ time interval or amplitude difference. A physical mechanism for the BCG data is disclosed that enables other arterial properties of the subject to be determined from the BCG data alone or from the BCG data in combination with other measurements.

  • Patent number: 11226335
Abstract: The disclosure relates to a method for specific detection of a target analyte using probe DNA specific to the target analyte and non-functionalized, carbohydrate-capped metal nanoparticles such as non-functionalized, dextrin-capped gold nanoparticles. A sample mixture including a target DNA analyte and a probe DNA specific thereto is incubated to from a probe DNA-target DNA complex. The non-functionalized, carbohydrate-capped metal nanoparticles and an ionic species such as sodium chloride or other salt are added to the probe DNA-target DNA complex, and the mixture is incubated. Addition of the ionic species creates a detectable distinction, such as color of the resultant mixture, between stabilized metal nanoparticles when the probe DNA-target DNA complex is present and destabilized metal nanoparticles when the probe DNA-target DNA complex is absent. The method can be used for colorimetric detection of plant pathogens and associated diseases in agricultural production systems.

  • Patent number: 11221330
Abstract: The disclosure relates to metal nanoparticle compositions and their methods of formation and use, in particular gold nanoparticles (AuNP) and gold-coated magnetic nanoparticles. Compositions according to the disclosure include aqueous suspensions of metal nanoparticles that are stabilized with one or more carbohydrate capping agents and/or that are functionalized with one or more binding pair members for capture/detection of a target analyte. The nanoparticle suspensions are stable for extended periods and can be functionalized as desired at a later point in time, typically prior to use in an assay for the detection of a target biological analyte. The stable nanoparticle suspension can be formed by the aqueous reduction of oxidized metal precursors at non-acidic pH values in the presence of a carbohydrate-based capping agent such as dextrin or other oligosaccharides.
