Publication number: 20130027177Abstract: A method or system for controlling and recording the security of an enclosure is disclosed. A mobile electronic control device, such as an electronic key, is used to access or otherwise control the operations of a field device. In a control event in which the mobile control device interacts with the field device via wired or wireless communications, the control device obtains the current location and the field device ID. The location information is used by the mobile control device to determine whether the field device should be accessed or enabled. Alternatively, the location information may be stored separately in a location sensing device, and the control event data recorded by the key and the location information recorded by the location sensing device are later combined when they are downloaded into a management system for auditing. Moreover, an electronic access control device is disclosed comprising two microprocessors.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 14, 2012Publication date: January 31, 2013Applicant: MICRO ENHANCED TECHNOLOGY, INCInventor: William D. Patent number: 7821395Abstract: A vending machine uses a field-programmable electronic lock that learns a key code from a corresponding electronic key, a hand-held program unit, or an external computing device via wireless communications. In one mode, the electronic lock has a learning process activation device that is accessible only when the door of the vending machine is in the open position. In another mode, the electronic lock is programmed in the field without first opening the vending machine. A program command and access control data including a new access code are transmitted wirelessly from a hand-held program unit or the like. Alternatively, an external computing device is used to program the electronic lock via long-range wireless communications, and an electronic key is then used to open the electronic lock to physically access the vending machine.Type: GrantFiled: May 4, 2004Date of Patent: October 26, 2010Assignee: Micro Enhanced Technology, Inc.Inventors: William D. Patent number: 7741952Abstract: An electronic lock utilizes two microprocessors remote from each other for enhanced security. The first microprocessor is disposed close to an input device such as a keypad, and the second microprocessor is disposed close to the lock mechanism and well protected from external access. The first microprocessor transmits a communication code to the second microprocessor when it receives via the input device an access code that matches a preset access code. The second microprocessor opens the lock if the transmitted communication code matches a preset communication code. The dual-microprocessor arrangement is advantageously used in a voice controlled access control system and in a motorcycle ignition control system. The present invention further provides an electronic access control system which has a master electronic key having a preset number of access, and an electronic alarm system for a bicycle that has a remote control mounted in the helmet of the rider.Type: GrantFiled: February 21, 2007Date of Patent: June 22, 2010Assignee: Micro Enhanced Technology, Inc.Inventors: William D. Patent number: 7495543Abstract: A vending machine uses a field-programmable electronic lock that learns a key code from a corresponding electronic key. The electronic lock has a learning process activation device that is accessible when the door of the vending machine is in the open position. Using the learning process activation device, a service person activates the electronic lock to perform a key code learning operation, in which the electronic lock receives a key code transmitted from an electronic key and stores the key code in a non-volatile memory for future access control of the vending machine. Data encryption is employed in the communications between the key and the lock to ensure the security of the communications. A communication device installed in the vending machine for communicating with a home base computer allows the operation of the electronic lock to be remotely controlled for access control and auditing purposes.Type: GrantFiled: November 24, 2004Date of Patent: February 24, 2009Assignee: Micro Enhanced Technology, Inc.Inventors: William D. Patent number: 5617082Abstract: An electronic access control system for controlling a lock in which the inputs and outputs are multiplexed, the electrically programmable read only memory is written to and read from in a serial manner, and the operator can disable access codes and enable access codes in one operation. The device reduces power consumption when powering a solenoid or DC motor by pulsing the output power. Further, the device is able to be operated in a remote location whereby the remote device can accept inputs from a keypad, an electronic signal, or a telephone line. The remote device, when not in active operation, operates in a low power mode so that the remote device may be powered by a battery.Type: GrantFiled: November 15, 1994Date of Patent: April 1, 1997Assignee: Micro Enhanced Technology, Inc.Inventors: William D.
