    Abstract: Extra coagulant is added to the cuff portion of the former by a spray nozzle located between the coagulant and latex dipping tanks. A former is placed into a coagulant. After removal from the coagulant, additional coagulant to the cuff portion of the former by any conventional means, such as a spray nozzle. The higher concentration of coagulant at the cuff portion results in a thicker latex thickness at the cuff portion and counteracts the reduced dwell time of the cuff in the latex dipping tank as compared to the fingertip portion of the former. The thickness of the cuff portion can be controlled by altering the concentration of the coagulant applied by the spray nozzle.

    Abstract: The invention is the manipulation of the zinc oxide content and sulfur content of nitrile butadiene rubbers and selected vulcanization conditions that can be achieved economically with common production facilities. The manipulation of these components affects the relaxation property of gloves formed by this material. Produced are gloves that have a relaxation property, higher than 50%, and a low modulus (approximately 3 Mpa). The glove maintains decent ultimate tensile strength (>20 Mpa) and elongation (>500%). The glove is produced by a vulcanization process, which lasts from 5 to 60 minutes at temperatures ranging from 300° F. to 400° F. The tensile strength and elongation are well above the ASTM requirements for medical gloves. The current ASTM requirements are ASTM D412-92. Thanks to sufficient vulcanization, the films produced provide satisfactory protection from viral penetration. The tearing strength is also better because of the lower modulus.

The resulting glove shows the following superior barrier integrity characteristics by comparing with current vinyl gloves in the market: Much lower in use failure rate Improved puncture strength and tensile strength Better chemical resistance The invention provides formulations to make compounds and methods to make such gloves. The new formulations and procedures could be easily realized economically under common vinyl glove production lines. Depending on the desired applications, both powdered and powder free gloves could be produced in the same formula.

Failure occurs when a film sample secured to a column ruptures from the force applied by a stylus. The penetration depth of the blunt object is equal to the distance traveled by the stylus under the method of the invention. With the measurement of the penetration depth and the force applied by the stylus, a quantitative measurement of the rupture strength of the film sample is obtained.

    Abstract: A method of multiple dipping to make gloves with a clear wrist portion, which allows glove wearers to see through the transparent wrist portion and tell time with the gloves on, is disclosed. The method is applicable to all the common materials to make gloves, or coat gloves, via dipping: including natural rubber latex, nitrile rubber latex(carboxylated or non-carboxylated), polychloroprene latex, polyisoprene latex, polyurethane latex, polyvinyl chloride and their blends, or mixtures thereof. The invention provides procedures to make compounds, which are both transparent and opaque, as well as dipping sequences for the materials. Products, with the added feature of a transparent wrist portion, are provided without sacrificing performance and without increasing production cost.
