Abstract: A user-wearable device incorporates a respirator or breathing air filter in combination with an electronic system providing functionality to a wearing user. The functionality can include, for example, physiological data sensing, environmental data sensing, user input, user output, and communication network connectivity. The electronic system can be configured to communicate with an application executing on a user host device, such as a mobile phone, tablet or personal computer for transferring information gathered by the user-wearable device. The application executing on the user host device can be used to configure the user-wearable device. User host devices of multiple users can be configured to report gathered data to a data management system, which can aggregate and store data and perform analysis on the aggregated data. Various control arrangements may be used.
