Publication number: 20090300755Abstract: One or more hints can be presented during the entry of protected information. Traditionally, for security reasons, the protected information is displayed as ambiguous characters, hindering the ability to determine if there was an error inputting the information. A hash can be calculated from some or all of the protected information already input, and the resulting hash value can be used to select a hint. The hints can be selected from a relatively small number of easily distinguishable hints, including visual, auditory and sensory hints, or any combination thereof. The hints are not a globally unique identifier of the protected information and can, instead, be used to detect a deviation from the correct entry of the protected information.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 30, 2008Publication date: December 3, 2009Applicant: MICROSOFT CORPORATIONInventor: Alexey Pakhunov

Publication number: 20090300652Abstract: Dispatching an incoming message from a queue into message transfer session(s) from which message consumers may draw messages. The message is reversibly received from the queue, whereupon a context of a message is identified. If the context correlates to an existing message transfer session, the message is ultimately assigned to a message transfer session. If the context does not correlate to an existing message transfer session, a new message transfer session is created, and the message is assigned to that new message transfer session. Upon receiving an acknowledgement of successful processing of the message, the removal of the message from the queue-like communication medium is assured. Upon receiving an acknowledgement of unsuccessful processing of the message, the message is restored to the queue-like communication medium.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 29, 2008Publication date: December 3, 2009Applicant: Microsoft CorporationInventors: NICHOLAS ALEXANDER ALLEN, Edmund Samuel Pinto, Karthik Raman, David Leon Stucki, John Anthony Taylor, Kenneth David Wolf

Publication number: 20090296808Abstract: Techniques and tools for encoding enhancement layer video with quantization that varies spatially and/or between color channels are presented, along with corresponding decoding techniques and tools. For example, an encoding tool determines whether quantization varies spatially over a picture, and the tool also determines whether quantization varies between color channels in the picture. The tool signals quantization parameters for macroblocks in the picture in an encoded bit stream. In some implementations, to signal the quantization parameters, the tool predicts the quantization parameters, and the quantization parameters are signaled with reference to the predicted quantization parameters. A decoding tool receives the encoded bit stream, predicts the quantization parameters, and uses the signaled information to determine the quantization parameters for the macroblocks of the enhancement layer video. The decoding tool performs inverse quantization that can vary spatially and/or between color channels.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 3, 2008Publication date: December 3, 2009Applicant: Microsoft CorporationInventors: Shankar Regunathan, Shijun Sun, Chengjie Tu, Chih-Lung Lin

Publication number: 20090299962Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for regularly updating a web index with new or updated content, such as meta words or meta streams, for a particular web page address, such as a URL. Web page addresses and associated updated information, such as meta words, meta streams, values, and locations in the web index for those meta words are received. In order to update a web index, which is used by search engines to search web documents, a document identification is retrieved and associated with the updated information. As information in the web index is stored by document identification and not by web page addresses, the document identification may replace the web page address. Each meta word received is matched with corresponding document identifications and associated updated information, which creates an inverted format of the information. The web index may now be updated and stored by the system.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 28, 2008Publication date: December 3, 2009Applicant: MICROSOFT CORPORATIONInventors: PRATIBHA PERMANDLA, GAURAV SAREEN
