Patents Assigned to Midwest Tool and Cutlery Company
  • Patent number: 8316549
Abstract: A compound leverage hand tool with an interchangeable tool head. The tool includes a pair of pivotably interconnected handles and a tool head defined by a pair of pivotably interconnected blade members. Each blade member terminates at one end in a mounting dowel that is pivotably mounted in a pair of retention slots in one of the handles. Tool head latches are pivotably mounted to the handles and include locking fingers that extend over the retention slots. The tool head latches can be pivoted relative to the handles between a locked position, wherein the locking fingers prevent the mounting dowels from being removed from the handles, and an unlocked position, wherein the mounting dowels can be removed from the handles. A spring biases the tool head latches toward the locked position. To unlock the tool head latches and remove the tool head, a user engages a tool head latch and pulls the handles apart.

  • Patent number: 8113096
Abstract: A method for assembling a tool for cutting structural materials includes the steps of providing a pair of handles, each handle having a connector plate. A drive pin is pivotally coupled to the connector plates, the drive pin being movable as the handles are pivoted. A detachable cutting head includes a body with a cavity having a pair of opposing cavity openings, and further includes a channel to receive structural material workpieces. A cutting plate is slidably disposed in the cavity. The cutting head is selectably coupled to the handles and the cutting plate moves slidably in the body as the handles are pivoted, cutting a structural material workpiece inserted into the channel of the body, a cut portion of the inserted structural material workpiece being ejectable through the first cavity opening.

  • Publication number: 20110259073
Abstract: An improved compound leverage hand seamer with removable blades. The hand seamer includes a pair of pivotably connected handles and a pair of pivotably connected seamer heads. Each of the seamer heads is connected to one of the handles at a first end and terminates at a second end in a substantially planar head segment having a flat, inwardly-facing mounting surface. A substantially planar, rectangular blade is removably mounted to the mounting surface of each of the seamer heads in a flatly abutting relationship therewith by a pair of threaded fasteners that engage threaded mounting holes in the blades and in the seamer heads. The blades can be conveniently removed and replaced if they become worn or damaged, or if user wishes, to install smaller or larger blades on the hand seamer.

  • Patent number: 7637017
Abstract: A clipper with a cutting head and having an actuator. The heads contain a structural profile-specific channel into which structural material having the profile for which the head is designed is inserted and clipped. The head is designable for various structural profiles and, in one embodiment, multiple heads are interchangeably operated by a single actuator. In the interchangeable embodiment, a release button having two sections of differing diameters is disposed in the actuator and communicates with a connector slot of the head to permit attachment and detachment of the head from the actuator. The structure-specific clipper increases the quality of cuts and decreases the amount of deformation caused to the material. The clipper reduces buildup of waste material by ejecting cuttings from the head upon clipping.

  • Patent number: 4967613
Abstract: The subject invention relates to the art of adjustable wrenches. The adjustable wrench of this invention is particularly suited for the gripping of hex head fasteners. The adjustable wrench has a handle portion and a head portion. The head portion has two downwardly extending jaws. One jaw is stationery, the other being moveable. The moveable jaw moves in an elongated slot which is integral with the head portion. The moveable jaw and the elongated slot incorporate opposing interlocking surfaces which cooperate in such a manner as to support the moveable jaw during usage. The moveable jaw is connected to an adjusting means which may be an adjusting screw and an adjusting nut. The adjusting means controls the fixed relationship between the moveable jaw and the fixed jaw. In the embodiment which utilizes an adjusting screw its movement and hence the movement of the moveable jaw is controlled by the rotation of an adjusting nut.
