  • Patent number: 5604947
Abstract: A pair of pliers for gripping, twisting, and cutting wires having undulating wire gripping surfaces, a wire cutting cavity, and a resilient wire gripping material. The undulating wire gripping surfaces have high and low portions that unequally traverse the gripping surfaces and extend unequally beyond the centerline of the pliers. Such a configuration provides an equally distributed gripping force for an entire range of wires without causing any nicks and scrapes on the wire. The cutting cavity has a plurality of surfaces that form tiger tooth-like members. The geometry formed by the cavity's surfaces and tooth-like members provides a large surface area for the resilient gripping material to adhere to.

  • Patent number: 5351580
Abstract: An electrically heated thermal wire stripping hand tool device is provided which uses electrically heated ceramic blades or jaws having severing edges to remove insulation from electrical wire. The tool includes a pair of arms hingedly connected which removably mount stripping jaws thereon at their distal ends. Each jaw has an insulation severing edge which when heated will melt or otherwise degrade the insulation on the wire when it coacts with the severing edge on the mating jaw. Electrically heated wires and circuitry are provided which heat the severing edges of the jaw. Contacts are provided which removably secure each jaw to one of the arms to provide electrical power thereto. The jaws and contacts are also provided with alignment devices which coact with each other when the jaws are mounted on the arms to provide alignment in both the x and y axes of the plane on which the jaws mate for severing insulation.

  • Patent number: 5181636
Abstract: A fluid actuated dispensing device having a valve assembly and an actuating piston provides incremental movement of a drive piston within a tube holder. The valve assembly includes a trigger piston and a valve ball biased into engagement with a valve seat. A trigger is adapted to engage the trigger piston and urge the valve ball away from its seat to allow fluid to enter an actuating chamber. The increase in fluid pressure within the chamber drives an actuating piston from an initial position to an extended position in the chamber. The actuating piston is adapted to drive a washer off-center against a push rod during the stroke of the actuating piston. The washer cocks and grabs the push rod and urges the rod forwardly within the tube holder. A drive piston connected to the push rod is thereby driven forward within the tube holder for the full stroke of the actuating piston.

  • Patent number: 5131127
Abstract: A tool for removing a split washer, such as a brake lever "C" clamp, from a groove in a projection, such as would be found on a brake lever pivot is provided. The tool includes a first lever member; a second lever member pivotally interconnected to the first lever member at a pivotal axis; a gripping component manipulatable by the first lever member; and a cooperating component manipulatable by the second lever member. The distal end of the gripping component and the distal end of the cooperating component are located an equal distance from the pivotal axis to facilitate the gripping component to grip a portion of the washer. The cooperating component may be viewed as a wedge component as it is shaped to progressively increase the distance between the washer legs in correlation to the position of the first lever member relative to the second lever member until the inner geometery of the washer is sufficient to remove the washer from the projection.

  • Patent number: 4842025
Abstract: A wire twisting tool that includes a pair of jaws for clamping wire ends to be twisted and a removable spin drive unit for imparting rotation to the jaws to effect twisting of the wire ends. The spin drive unit is threadedly attached to a housing that encloses a spiral drive shaft. A pair of shaft engaging elements is mounted in a spaced apart relationship within a tubular carrier that forms part of the spin drive unit. The one end of the carrier is threaded and threadedly engages the housing. One of the shaft engaging elements is fixed to the carrier so that as the shaft is pulled through the drive element, rotation is imparted to the carrier. The other element slidably supports the drive shaft in order to maintain it in a predetermined alignment with respect to the carrier. In one embodiment, the support element is fixed to the carrier whereas in another embodiment it is free to move within the carrier to accommodate a change in pitch in the spiral shaft.

  • Patent number: 4790056
Abstract: A universal retaining ring tool that is shiftable between internal and external modes of operation. The tool includes a pair of pivotally connected handles, a pair of jaw members selectively coupled to the handles by a latching arrangement including two transversely slidable latch members. In one position of the latch members one handle member is coupled to one jaw member and the other handle is coupled to the other jaw member. When the latch members are switched, the one handle is coupled to the other jaw member and the other handle is coupled to the one jaw member. Removable tips are secured to each jaw member by an associated clamping plate that includes a corner that diverges from the overall plane of the clamping plate towards the associated jaw member. The fastener for securing the clamping plate is critically so that a positive clamping force is exerted on the tip in a region where it enters the jaw.

  • Patent number: 4635510
Abstract: In a hand tool, a pair of elongated tool arms interconnected by a pivot, a torsion spring having legs which are connected respectively to the tool arms to bias the arms to an open position, and a plier lock element member having a spaced pair of eyes and a connecting bridge, with the plier element being slidably connected to the torsion spring legs such that the element is movable between locking and release positions. When in the lock position, the element is near the spring interconnection and acts to restrain the spring from biasing, and to inhibit relative work movement of the tool arms. When in the release position, the element selectively permits work performing movement of the arms about the pivot. One of the spring legs includes a working offset portion, and each of the spring legs includes a locking offset portion located near its connection with the associated one of the tool arms.
