Abstract: A system and method for monitoring and regulating the transportation of hazardous material. The system and method provides an integrated knowledge management system specifically configured for the tracking, monitoring and management of hazardous materials while in transit and permits real-time tracking using GPS (Global Positioning System) and GIS (Geographic Information System) technology that provides automatic alarms on the occurrence of conditions of concern such as deviation from planned route, proximity to sensitive sites (government facilities, power generating plants, bridges, military bases, airports, skyscrapers, shopping malls, sports arenas, etc.), unanticipated delays, driver alarm, discrepancies between registered and observed condition at weigh stations, convergence of multiple hazardous material shipments, and other potentially dangerous incidents or conditions.
