  • Patent number: 4006685
Abstract: A plate cylinder has a shaft end portion that is rotatably supported in a press frame for axial movement relative thereto. A gear hub is axially movable and coaxially positioned on the shaft end portion. A helical driven gear is coaxially positioned on and non-rotatably secured to the gear hub. The teeth of the driven gear mesh with the helical gear teeth of a drive gear fixed relative to the driven gear. A circumferential adjustment housing is rotatably secured to the gear hub to permit rotation of the gear hub relative to the housing. The housing is non-rotatably positioned for axial movement in a support frame that extends outwardly from the press frame. Resilient members retained within the circumferential adjustment housing urge the housing to move axially relative to the support frame. A circumferential adjustment mechanism is non-rotatably secured to the circumferential adjustment housing and axially moves the housing toward and away from the main frame.

  • Patent number: 3993302
Abstract: Sheets are fed down an inclined feedboard to a transfer cylinder of a printing press. Adjacent the delivery end of the feedboard there are a plurality of pairs of feed rolls to accelerate the sheets toward the transfer cylinder and a plurality of front guide members to preregister the front edge of the sheet. The pairs of feed rolls each include a driven roll that oscillates through an arc in timed relation with the transfer cylinder. The feed roll drive mechanism includes pairs of flexible members wrapped in opposite directions around and secured to the feed roll drive shaft on which the driven feed rolls are mounted. In one embodiment one of the flexible members is connected to a lever mechanism and the other flexible member is connected to the press housing through a spring member. In another embodiment both flexible members are connected to the lever member with a spring member on the lever member maintaining a tension on both flexible members.

  • Patent number: 3935814
Abstract: In a sheet fed printing press the sheet delivery apparatus includes a delivery drum positioned adjacent to an impression cylinder of the printing press. The delivery drum has a shaft journaled in the press frame with a pair of delivery sprockets connected the shaft on opposite sides of the delivery drum for rotation therewith. Endless delivery chains are reeved about the sprockets and have a plurality of transversely extending gripper bars secured therebetween in spaced relation to each other. The delivery drum has a recessed portion arranged to receive the gripper bars as the gripper bars revolve about the shaft with the delivery drum.
