  • Patent number: 4478036
Abstract: Method and apparatus to produce a continuous filament textured yarn with unusually low crimp contraction and intermittent crimp and molecular orientation along its length. This is accomplished by the use of an electromagnetic tension device to control the draw in the yarn being supplied to a false twist device driven at a speed to provide low false twist in the yarn being twisted. The apparatus includes a control between the electromagnetic tension control and the yarn supply package to prevent the yarn coming off the package from rotating in a full balloon path and consequently prevent entanglement of the yarn in the yarn guides as it passes to a yarn consuming machine.

  • Patent number: 4471514
Abstract: Apparatus for imparting visual surface effects to a relatively moving substrate by application of discrete streams of heated pressurized fluid to surface areas of the substrate. The apparatus includes an elongate manifold assembly comprising two fluid receiving compartments, each extending across the path of said substrate. Fluid from the first compartment passes into the second compartment, which is comprised of a series of chambers, each associated with a throttling gap. The fluid is uniformly mixed within this second compartment, and may then be directed onto the substrate as a thin, continuous stream extending the length of the manifold. By use of blocking streams of relatively cool fluid, smaller streams or groups of streams extending along selected portions of the manifold may be formed.

  • Patent number: 4468844
Abstract: A process is provided for mechanically surface-finishing a textile fabric which comprises continuously feeding said fabric from a source of supply, such that said fabric lies in a single plane, subjecting successive adjacent sections of the fabric to intermittent mechanical impact with an abrasive means across the width of said fabric thereby avoiding substantial sustained contact between the fabric and the abrasive means, the mechanical impact being at a force and frequency sufficient to cause a substantially uniform modification of the surface characteristics of the fabric. Textile fabrics with modified surface which may be made by the above process are also provided. Apparatus for mechanically surface-finishing a textile fabric according to the aforedescribed process is further provided.

  • Patent number: 4448831
Abstract: A napped fabric is treated to bond the nap fibers together while leaving the nap structure largely open and porous. The surface of the bonded nap is then subjected to a series of spaced short cuts to form spaced clumps of bonded fibers which clumps have free ends projecting from the bonded nap so that they can be brushed from stable upright positions to bent-over positions, giving an attractive rough appearance resembling a split suede leather.

  • Patent number: 4446690
Abstract: The apparatus includes a control between the electromagnetic tension control and the yarn supply package to prevent the yarn coming off the package from rotating in a full balloon path and consequently prevent entanglement of the yarn in the yarn guides to a yarn consuming machine. The balloon control basically employs a bar member under which the yarn passes as it is delivered to a yarn guide tube. The bar member prevents the yarn from rotating as it is taken off over-end from the yarn package thereby alleviating the possibility of yarn entanglement at the yarn tube.
