  • Patent number: 5211482
Abstract: A zipper closure strip for attachment to the top of a formed, filled and sealed package is provided. The zipper strip has a pair of interlocking profile members that extend from bowed webs which conform generally to the cross section of the top of the filled package. The strip may thus straddle the top of the package, gable fashion, and be bonded to the top of the package by heat seals, adhesive or the like. A slider seats on the profile members for urging them into engagement or forcing them apart. A blade protrudes through the slider from a plunger to enable the film at the top of the package beneath the closure strip to be slit. The zipper may be cuffed to expose the top end of the package to facilitate opening.

  • Patent number: 5023122
Abstract: A reclosable plastic film for a bag and the method and mechanism for making the same. The film may be employed for making various types of bags, but in each case the arrangement provides for a tear strip wherein a series of perforations are placed in the film extending parallel to the fastener profiles, and a sealing cap layer is placed over the perforations which cap layer is grain oriented and sufficiently frangible so that as the film is torn along the line of perforations, the cap layer will tear, providing sealing until tearing occurs. A method and apparatus are provided wherein a completed film for a bag may be constructed in a single pass with the film first being perforated, the cap layer laid over the film while molten, and the profiles then attached to the film oriented relative to the location of the perforations.

  • Patent number: 4923701
Abstract: A zippered cook-in-bag pouch and method wherein the pouch and a profiled extruded plastic zipper structure at the mouth of the pouch body are formed from material which will withstand substantially without deterioration maximum cooking heat to which contents within the pouch may be subjected when cooking the contents. A set hot melt adhesive between the profiles bonds the profiles tenaciously against separation at room temperature. The adhesive is sufficiently softenable at a temperature substantially above room temperature but near the cooking temperature, for releasing the profiles for opening the pouch body. The adhesive is settable to a non-tacky state in respect to the separated profiles when the adhesive temperature drops below the softenable temperature of the adhesive so that the zipper can then be reclosed and opened at will without adhesive interference.
