  • Patent number: 4691373
Abstract: Zipper closures for selective attachment along elongated openings in preexisting containers such as bags or cartons to thereby convert such cartons or bags into reclosable containers. The closure for each container comprises a section of a zipper strip assembly having a pair of separable and reclosable strip members provided with respective attachment surfaces on which there is pressure sensitive adhesive. Peelable cover sheet engages the adhesive protectively to permit handling of the zipper closure either as individual lengths or in an indeterminate length from which sections may be severed. The zipper closure is easily applied by peeling the cover sheet and adhesively attaching the attachment surfaces to lips at opposite sides of the elongated opening in the container.Method and apparatus for making the new and improved zipper closure are also provided.

  • Patent number: 4682366
Abstract: Bags especially adapted to be made from fusibly incompatible bag body web material and extruded plastic zippers comprising in each instance a pair of zipper strips having reclosable zipper profiles located below upper ends of pull flanges, and fused connecting anchors extending from the zipper strips through holes in the material of the bag body and thereby permanently attaching the zipper strips to the bag body. The portions of the bag body material having the anchor holes may be received in groove sockets in the zipper strips, where the zipper strips are located at the inside of the bag. The zipper strips may be located on the outside of the bag and sealably pinch material of the bag body material in and between interlocking profiles, with ends of the zipper strips secured to the sides of the bag by fused anchors extending through holes in side seams on the bag body. Method of making the bags is disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4673383
Abstract: A plastic separable fastener strip, and assembly of such strip with a substrate, and a method of attaching such strip to a substrate, comprising the provision of and utilization of fusible ribs on the base surface of the fastener strip to provide a bonding layer for bonding the strip to the substrate. Reducing the ribs into fusible condition without heat distortion of the remainder of the fastener strip and without heat distortion or damage of the substrate, provides a bonding layer when the fused ribs of the fastener strip are pressed together with the substrate. A simple apparatus and method are provided for effecting the bonding by fusion of the fusion ribs.

  • Patent number: 4657792
Abstract: Funnel material for bags and a method of making the same, wherein elongated sheet panels are disposed in face-to-face relation and secured along an intermediate longitudinally extended zig-zag joinder and separation line. This provides a pair of funnel strips each of which has a series of funnel pockets at its edge along the line. Bag body wall sheets attached to the panels are arranged to receive the funnel pockets of each strip in inwardly extending relation therebetween, for providing respective reversible funnels in bags into which the strips and bag wall sheets are adapted to be divided. The panels may carry separable fastener profiles adjacent their edges remote from the zig-zag line.

  • Patent number: 4655862
Abstract: A method of making making reclosable bags and material for making the bags, and apparatus wherein in one aspect extruded resiliently flexible plastic profiled reclosable fastener strip means for reclosable bags is located across the longitudinal formation axis of the bag wall web material, and in another aspect of the invention single strip fastener strip has at one or more suitable locations therealong separations across the profiles, such as notches, to facilitate bending or folding of the strip upon itself so that the self-interlocking profiles of the portions of the strip folded upon themselves are adapted for reclosable interlocking with one another. The interlockable portions of the strip may have separable air tight sealing ribs therealong. The web and fastener material and fastener assembly is especially suitable for machines wherein the bags are formed, filled and sealed.

  • Patent number: 4651504
Abstract: Double funnel bag material and method, wherein continuous length plastic film material is formed into a plurality of coextensive funnel strips connected together as formed. Each of the funnel strips is provided along an edge which is remote from the edge connection with the companion strip, with a zig-zag edge defining a series of funnel pockets therealong. The funnel strips have bag wall film attached thereto. Then after separation of the strips and bag wall material assembly along the edge connection, the strips can be rolled-up for future use, or immediately used, by forming into individual bag sections to be filled, and the bag sections separated from the respective strips.

  • Patent number: 4635294
Abstract: Material and method for making three reclosable bag sections from separable fastener equipped web, comprising folding opposite free portions of the web upon themselves and folding an intervening portion of the web upon itself and thereby providing three bag sections in a generally Y orientation. Separably interlockable fastener profiles adjacent to juncture of the three sections being arranged to provide a respective bag top separable profile fastener assembly along each of the bag sections. The bag sections are separable from one another at the juncture. Pull flanges may be provided along the separable fastener assembly of each of the sections.

  • Patent number: 4629524
Abstract: Method and apparatus for making reclosable bag material and wherein a continuous length of preformed, flat bag wall web of multibag width is continuously run along flat stationary supporting surface. A plurality of continuous length fastener profile strips are joined into corunning assembled relation with the web on the surface. The strips are guided to retain their longitudinal running positions on the web. Bonding fusion energy is applied by way of openings in the surface and through the web toward the base surface of each of the fastener strips.

  • Patent number: 4581006
Abstract: A device and method for repositioning sliders on profiled resiliently flexible zipper on bag sections of bag making material travelling along a manufacturing path. The device may comprise a frame, two movable rollers cooperatively opposed to one another mounted on free ends of arms which are pivoted and adapted for moving the rollers toward and away from one another. When the rollers are in close adjacency they are adapted to restrain the sliders for a predetermined interval while the zipper travels on with the bag making material whereby to reposition the slider properly with respect to transverse bag side sealing of the bag sections. The rollers are operable to shift the sliders in opposite directions along the zipper in the cyclical operation of the associated apparatus, whereby to test proper functioning of the sliders.

  • Patent number: 4578813
Abstract: A fastener assembly has two sets of fastener profile elements for a reclosable bag especially adapted for mutually facilitating alignment and interlocking closure interengagement of said fastener profile elements responsive to closing pressure applied from outside of the bag toward the fastener assembly.Further, the fastener assembly is so constructed that a lower portion of the fastener assembly effectively resists opening separation from the interlocking interengagement thereof by separating forces exerted on the wall panels of the bag from inside of the bag body, while the upper portion of the fastener assembly is adapted to be relatively easily separated by pulling apart pull flanges extending thereabove, and such pulling apart of the pull flanges sequentially thereafter being adapted to pull apart the lower portion of the fastener assembly for access through the mouth of the bag into the interior of the bag.
