Patents Assigned to Mining Equipment Division
  • Patent number: 4117894
Abstract: A drill pot for rotating a drill steel is supported at the front end portion of a drill boom that extends forwardly from a self-propelled frame. The drill boom raises the drill pot in a straight line to advance the rotating drill steel into the mine roof and drill a bore hole for the installation of a roof bolt. A drill guide carriage is supported at the front end portion of a drill guide boom that also extends forwardly from the machine frame. The drill guide boom is positioned in overlying relation with the drill boom and is raised to move the drill guide carriage in vertical alignment with the drill pot. A pair of drill guide members is pivotally connected to the drill guide carriage for movement into a closed drill guide position surrounding the drill steel.

  • Patent number: 4108253
Abstract: A drill boom is connected at its rear end portion to a mobile body and supports at its front end portion a drill pot for rotating a drill steel. The drill boom raises the drill pot along a predetermined straight-line path to advance the rotating drill steel into the mine roof to form a bore hole for insertion of a roof bolt assembly. An operator's compartment is slidably mounted on the front end of the mobile body laterally of the drill boom. A hydraulic cylinder positioned on the mobile body raises the operator's compartment along a plane aligned with the plane of movement of the drill pot. A protective canopy overlies and is movable with the operator's compartment. A drill steel guide is secured to the canopy and includes movable guide portions that extend into surrounding relation with the drill steel. The drill steel guide is elevated with the canopy to a position adjacent the mine roof.

  • Patent number: 4079792
Abstract: A horizontal deck extends forwardly from a self-propelled body portion. An elevating mechanism pivotally connects the deck to the body portion for vertical movement of the deck into and out of position on the mine floor. A mast-type roof drilling unit is mounted on the front of the deck and includes a vertically movable drill pot for advancing a rotating drill rod into the mine roof for drilling a bore hole therein. The deck is positioned on the mine floor during the drilling operation. During tramming of the body portion the deck is raised to an elevated position above the mine floor. A roof support assembly is supported by telescoping devices above the deck to provide overhead protection for the machine operator during the drilling and tramming operations. During drilling the roof support assembly is raised to abut the mine roof and support the mine roof above the operator on the deck.

  • Patent number: 3990522
Abstract: A drill housing is pivotally connected to the forward end portion of a boom member that swings upwardly from a frame of a mobile drilling machine. A hydraulic motor is secured to the gear housing and provides rotary power from a drive shaft through a pair of meshing gears to a drill chuck that is arranged to receive a drill bit or a roof bolt. A percussion weight is concentrically positioned within the drill housing and is axially aligned with the drill bit for imparting percussive forces to the drill bit. The percussion control is maintained through a servovalve that is supported on the drill housing and is controlled remotely by an electronic control module. The servovalve controls the flow of pressurized fluid from a source through ports in the drill housing connected to the servovalve by conduits to actuate a piston member for oscillation within the drill housing. Oscillation of the piston imparts a percussive force upon the percussion weight which is transmitted to the drill bit.

  • Patent number: 3939958
Abstract: Apparatus for the handling of dislodged particulate material within a mine includes a base member having ground traction means with a body member supported on the base member. Vertical side plates on opposed sides of the body member secured thereto define a longitudinal material receiving bin. An endless main conveyor located within the material receiving bin has a receiving end and a discharge end. The receiving end when used as a surge hopper is adapted to continuously receive material dislodged from an adjacent continuous mining machine. A delivery conveyor receives material from the discharge end of the main conveyor and discharges it into other conveying means such as a shuttle car or an endless belt conveyor. A portion of the main conveyor positioned adjacent the discharge end thereof moves or pivots upwardly about a transverse horizontal axis and thereby assumes a position for maximum discharge of the material.
