  • Patent number: 6102317
Abstract: A fishing reel comprises a rigid housing, made from the assembly of several parts, and covered with a waterproof flexible casing, except for the openings for access for mechanical parts and the foot. A cover pinches the casing around the front opening for access for the main reel shaft. The foot pinches the casing around a fastening tenon for the foot. Some plugs ensure waterproofing by pinching the casing around the openings for access for the crank shaft. Therefore, the housing provides effective waterproofing by protecting the gear mechanism in the cavity of the housing.

  • Patent number: 6102314
Abstract: A fishing reel front section includes a support shaft extending along an axis and configured for reciprocal movement along the axis, a spool supported by the support shaft and a drum rotatably supported about the spool. The spool includes a peripheral groove configured to store fishing line, a front flange on a first side of the groove, a rear flange on a second opposite side of the groove and a rear skirt extending from the rear flange and terminating at a rear edge. The drum includes a body, first and second diametrically opposed retrieval arms extending forward from the body and a bail arm coupled to ends of the first and second retrieval arms. Each retrieval arm has a base proximate the body and an opposite end. The first and second retrieval arms define a fishing line retrieval side and a fishing line casting side on opposite sides of a plane parallel to the axis and intersecting the first and second retrieval arms.

  • Patent number: 6045077
Abstract: The reel according to the invention comprises a spool support shaft that is held in a reel housing by its rear section and supports a front hub that comprises a front cylindrical coaxial barrel connected by means of a shoulder to a coaxial rear skirt. A line supply extends onto the front cylindrical coaxial barrel of the front hub and locks by means of an axial hole. The line supply comprises a solid front wall, blocking the axial hole toward the front.

  • Patent number: 5743478
Abstract: A fixed spool, rotary line recovery device fishing reel includes a rotary drum carrying a recovery device bail arm articulated to the drum at both ends. The first end of the bail arm carries a roller over which the line passes during recovery. The roller is cylindrical or slightly concave and of sufficient length to allow unimpeded axial movement of the line due to the amount of line wound onto the spool and due to the relative position of the recovery device relative to the fishing pole. This reduces the stresses exerted on the line and its gradual tendency to twist.

  • Patent number: 5649671
Abstract: In a fishing reel with an instantaneously disengageable non-return device, the non-return device has teeth on the inside face of the line recovery device drum. A pawl pivots about an offset spindle on the reel frame and engages with the teeth on the drum in a locked position. A lever pivoting about the main axis of the reel is friction driven by the drum and in turn drives the pawl. The coupling area of the pawl is near the rotation spindle of the pawl and away from the main axis of the reel, so that there is a large multiplication ratio between rotation of the lever and rotation of the pawl. The pawl can therefore be locked to the teeth after imperceptible rotation of the lever and the drum. This achieves an instantaneous non-return function of the drum.

  • Patent number: 5573193
Abstract: A fishing reel comprises a spool whose posterior flange carries a ring engaged in an annular peripheral groove. The ring comprises studs sliding in longitudinal grooves on the inside surface of a cylindrical peripheral wall of the flyer. The ring prevents the line getting between the spool and the flyer.

  • Patent number: 5540396
Abstract: A fishing reel comprises, in a first bail arm, a locking device enabling locking of the bail arm in its closed position. It comprises in a second bail arm a return spring urging the bail arm from its closed position towards its open position and a mechanical transmission actuated by rotation of the bail arm drum to return the bail arm automatically from its open position towards its closed position. Unlocking of the bail arm in its closed position is effected manually, either by manual further pivoting in the closing direction or by manual partial pivoting in the opening direction. The bail arm can also be returned from its open position to its closed position manually.

  • Patent number: 5513813
Abstract: A fishing reel with a fixed spool and line recovery device comprises a flyer rotated about an axis and carrying a line recovery bail. The bail and the flyer comprise respective pinch surfaces which are pressed together when the bail is in a line recovery position. The fishing line is engaged and pinched between the pinch surfaces and is therefore tensioned between the spool and the recovery device from the start of line recovery. This improves the regularity with which the line is wound around the spool.

  • Patent number: 5513814
Abstract: The reel with fixed spool and rotary line recovery device is such that the spool is mounted at the end of a spool spindle reciprocated longitudinally by a transmission system comprising a transverse slideway constrained to move with the spool spindle, a drive wheel coupled to a handle and an eccentric crank pin fastened to a satellite wheel rotating about an eccentric satellite wheel spindle on the drive wheel. The satellite wheel has a peripheral toothed ring meshing with a fixed central toothed pinion on the frame. The diameter and number of teeth of the toothed ring and the pinion are such that the satellite wheel is rotated in the same direction as the drive wheel and at twice its angular speed. The eccentric crank pin is positioned on the satellite wheel so that it has the maximal eccentricity relative to the transverse wheel spindle in both extreme positions lengthwise of the longitudinal axis of the spool spindle at which its direction of motion is reversed.

  • Patent number: 5121888
Abstract: A fishing reel with disengageable spool is disclosed comprising a first groove and a second groove formed in the vicinity of the front end of the spool support shaft. The spool comprises a resilient key engageable in one or other of the first and second grooves. When the spool is engaged in the first groove, a key of the shaft is engaged in a passage in a rear wall of the spool, preventing relative rotation of the spool on the shaft. When the resilient key is engaged in the second groove, the transverse key swivels freely in a space of the spool, allowing the spool to rotate on the shaft. Disengagement of the spool is obtained by axial translation of the spool on the shaft.

  • Patent number: 5078334
Abstract: A fishing reel with removable spool and reduction of the free motion is disclosed, comprising a removable spool which can be fitted on a shaft integral with the reel body. A main annular seal made from a resilient material is inserted between the spool bore and the spool shaft. The seal is compressed axially and radially between corresponding surfaces of the spool and the shaft. A secondary seal is compressed radially between the spool and the shaft. The seals reduce the free motion between the spool and the shaft.
