Patent number: 10360447Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for defining and determining a formal and verifiable mobile document image quality and usability (MDIQU) standard, or Standard for short. The Standard ensures that a mobile image can be used in an appropriate mobile document processing application, for example an application for mobile check deposit. In order to quantify the usability, the Standard establishes 5 quality and usability grades. A mobile image capture device can capture images. A mobile device can receive information associated with one or more image quality assurance (IQA) criteria; evaluating the images to select an image satisfying an image quality criteria based on the received information; and in response to the image satisfying the image quality score, sending the selected image to determine a set of image quality assurance (IQA) scores.Type: GrantFiled: September 29, 2017Date of Patent: July 23, 2019Assignee: Mitek Systems, Inc.Inventors: Grigori Nepomniachtchi, Mike Strange

Patent number: 10275673Abstract: Techniques for assuring the quality of mobile document image captured using a mobile device are provided. These techniques include performing one or more tests to assess the quality of images of documents captured using the mobile device. The tests can be selected based on the type of document that was imaged, the type of mobile application for which the image quality of the mobile image is being assessed, and/or other parameters such as the type of mobile device and/or the characteristics of the camera of the mobile device that was used to capture the image. The image quality assurance techniques can also be implemented on can be implemented on a mobile device and/or on a remote server where the mobile device routes the mobile image to the remote server processing and the test results are be passed from the remote server to the mobile device.Type: GrantFiled: June 12, 2017Date of Patent: April 30, 2019Assignee: Mitek Systems, Inc.Inventors: Nikolay Kotovich, Grigori Nepomniachtchi, James DeBello

Patent number: 8983170Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for assessing whether mobile deposit processing engines meet specified standards for mobile deposit of financial documents. A mobile deposit processing engine (MDE) is evaluated to determine if it can perform technical capabilities for improving the quality of and extracting content from an image of a financial document. A verification process then begins, where the MDE performs the image quality enhancements and text extraction steps on sets of images from a test deck. The results of the processing of the test deck are then evaluated by comparing confidence levels with thresholds to determine if each set of images should be accepted or rejected. Further analysis determines whether any of the sets of images were falsely accepted or rejected in error. An overall error rate is then compared with minimum accuracy criteria, and if the criteria are met, the MDE meets the standard for mobile deposit.Type: GrantFiled: March 15, 2013Date of Patent: March 17, 2015Assignee: Mitek Systems, Inc.Inventors: Grigori Nepomniachtchi, Mike Strange

Patent number: 8724924Abstract: Systems and methods for matching a received image with a template image are disclosed herein. Such systems and methods can advantageously enable an image captured by a mobile device (such as a smartphone or digital camera) to be correctly identified by the processing application. In some embodiments, the received image is first resized in one or both dimensions in order to match or approximately match the dimensions of a given template. The received image and template image can then be superimposed. Next, an optimal translative transformation value can be calculated in order to generate a confidence level for the current possible match. After confidence levels for each template are generated and recorded, the template with the highest confidence level can be selected as the best match for the received image.Type: GrantFiled: March 15, 2013Date of Patent: May 13, 2014Assignee: Mitek Systems, Inc.Inventors: Grigori Nepomniachtchi, Vitali Kliatskine, Vladimir Kluzner

Patent number: 8483473Abstract: Systems and methods for applying for and creating balance transfers with a mobile device are provided. An image of a customer's financial statement can be taken using a mobile device, after which the image is analyzed to extract information relevant to creating a balance transfer. The extracted information is then communicated to a bank over a network connected with the mobile device, where the bank can process the information and create an offer to the customer for a balance transfer in real-time. An example financial statement is a credit card statement. These systems and methods may comprise capturing an image of a document using a mobile communication device; transmitting the image to a server; detecting relevant information within the image; transmitting the information to a bank; and transmitting a resulting balance transfer offer from the bank to the mobile device.Type: GrantFiled: October 29, 2012Date of Patent: July 9, 2013Assignee: Mitek Systems, Inc.Inventors: John J. Patent number: 8379914Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for capturing and processing images of remittance coupons using a mobile device and obtaining data from the captured image which is used to set up or carry out payment of a bill that corresponds to the remittance coupon. Optimization and enhancement of image capture and image processing are provided on the mobile device to improve the initial quality of the captured image and provide a user with real time feedback. The image is then sent from the mobile device to a remote server, where additional image processing is performed to improve the quality of the image and then extract data from the image that is relevant to paying the bill. The extracted data may be verified through comparisons with databases which store information on billers, bill formats and other relevant content that will appear on the bill.Type: GrantFiled: September 18, 2012Date of Patent: February 19, 2013Assignee: Mitek Systems, Inc.Inventors: Grigori Nepomniachtchi, Josh Roach
