    Abstract: A positioning apparatus for an electrical discharge machine includes: a power supply 106 for applying a pulse voltage between an electrode 101 and a workpiece 102; a discharge detecting means 1108 for detecting the occurrence of electrical discharge between the electrode 101 and the workpiece 102; and a means for generating a positioning completion signal on the basis of a detection signal from the discharge detecting means 1108.
