    Abstract: Deep neural network (DNN) has been used for various applications to provide inference, regression, classification, and prediction. Although a high potential of DNN has been successfully demonstrated in literature, most DNN requires high computational complexity and high power operation for real-time processing due to a large number of multiply-accumulate (MAC) operations. The present invention provides a way to realize hardware-friendly MAC-less DNN framework with round-accumulate (RAC) operation operations based on power-of-two (PoT) weights. The method and system are based on the realization that rounding-aware training for powers-of-two expansion can eliminate the need of multiplier components from the system without causing any performance loss. In addition, the method and system provide a way to reduce the number of PoT weights based on a knowledge distillation using a progressive compression of an over-parameterized DNN.

    Abstract: A controller for controlling a motion of at least one device subject to constraints on the motion, is disclosed. Further, the controller extracts at least some of the integer values of a solution to a mixed-integer optimization problem for planning an execution of the task that results in the estimated motion trajectory. The controller receives an input signal indicative of the operation of the system and rotates a test signal multiple times with different circular shifts to produce different rotations of the test signal forming a matrix data structure with the input signal. The input signal and the test signal are time-series data having values monotonically measured over time. The controller is further configured to apply a sliding three-dimensional (3D) window method to the matrix data structure to produce statistics of the input signal with respect to the rotations of the test signal. The sliding 3D window method iteratively moves window over the matrix data structure to compute a value of the statistics for a segment of the matrix data structure within the window. Furthermore, the controller controls the operation of the system according to the statistics of the input signal.

    Abstract: A system calibrates a function of a tire friction of a vehicle traveling on a road from motion data including a sequence of control inputs to the vehicle that moves the vehicle on the road and a corresponding sequence of measurements of the motion of the vehicle moved by the sequence of control inputs. The system updates iteratively the probability distribution of the tire friction function until a termination condition is met, wherein, for an iteration, the system samples the probability distribution of the tire friction function, determines a state trajectory of the vehicle to fit the sequence measurements according to the measurement model and the sequence of control inputs according to the motion model including the sample of the tire friction function, and updates the probability distribution of the tire friction function based on the state trajectory of the vehicle.

    Abstract: An imaging photoplethysmography (iPPG) system is provided. The iPPG system receives a sequence of images of different regions of the skin of the person, where each region including pixels of different intensities indicative of variation of coloration of the skin. The iPPG system further transforms the sequence of images into a multidimensional time-series signal, each dimension corresponding to a different region from the different regions of the skin. The iPPG system further processes the multidimensional time-series signal with a time-series U-Net neural network wherein the pass-through layers include a recurrent neural network (RNN) to generate a PPG waveform, where the vital sign of the person is estimated based on the PPG waveform, and the iPPG system further renders the estimated vital sign of the person.

    Abstract: Connected and automated vehicles (CAVs) have shown the potential to improve safety, increase road throughput, and optimize energy efficiency and emissions in several complicated traffic scenarios. This invention describes a mixed-integer programming (MIP) optimization method for global multi-vehicle decision making and motion planning of CAVs in a highly dynamic environment that consists of multiple human-driven, i.e., conventional or manual, vehicles and multiple conflict zones, such as merging points and intersections. The proposed approach ensures safety, high throughput and energy efficiency by solving a global multi-vehicle constrained optimization problem. The solution provides a feasible and optimal time schedule through road segments and conflict zones for the automated vehicles, by using information from the position, velocity, and destination of the manual vehicles, which cannot be directly controlled.

Each node of the spatio-temporal scene graph describes an appearance, a location, and/or a motion of each of the objects (static and dynamic objects) at different time instances. The nodes of the spatio-temporal scene graph are embedded into a latent space using a spatio-temporal transformer encoding different combinations of different nodes of the spatio-temporal scene graph corresponding to different spatio-temporal volumes of the scene. Each node of the different nodes encoded in each of the combinations is weighted with an attention score determined as a function of similarities of spatio-temporal locations of the different nodes in the combination.
