Abstract: Energy efficient noise dampening coaxial and twisted pair cables include certain layers to improve the quality of signals transmitted over the cables. A coaxial cable includes a conductive core, a first insulating layer surrounding the conductive core, a metal shield layer surrounding the first insulating layer, a second insulating layer surrounding the metal shield layer, a carbon material layer surrounding the second insulating layer, and a protective sheath wrapping the carbon material layer. A twisted pair cable section includes a core section. The core section includes a carbon material core, an insulating layer surrounding the carbon material core, and a metal shield layer surrounding the insulating layer. A plurality of twisted pair cables are disposed in sections or compartments defined by the core section, and between the core section and a protective sheath. Methods for constructing the cables are also disclosed.

Abstract: A noise dampening tape and gasket material for reducing or preventing unwanted electromagnetic interference from escaping or entering an enclosure. The noise dampening gasket includes an inner core section, a carbon material layer surrounding the inner core section, an insulating layer surrounding the carbon material layer, and a metal shield layer surrounding the insulating layer. The noise dampening tape includes a metal shield layer, an insulating layer adjacent to and in contact with the metal shield layer, a carbon material layer adjacent to and in contact with the insulating layer, and an adhesive layer disposed on a surface of the carbon material layer. A second adhesive layer can be disposed on a surface of the metal shield layer.

  • Publication number: 20110253475
Abstract: A noise dampening enclosure includes a first insulating layer, a second insulating layer, a carbon material layer disposed between the first and second insulating layers, a metal shield layer disposed between the first and second insulating layers, and a third insulating layer disposed between the carbon material layer and the metal shield layer. The carbon material layer can include resin-impregnated woven carbon fiber fabric. Strands of the carbon material can be orientated in various configurations, including layering the strands at different angles. Noise dampening bulkhead material provides additional shielding between circuit boards or other electronic components contained within the enclosure. In addition, a noise dampening boot can be placed over cable connections and assemblies to decrease the influences of unwanted electromagnetic noise.

  • Publication number: 20110209909
Abstract: A noise dampening energy efficient circuit board includes a carbon material layer for dampening electromagnetic interference between surface mount components and trace patterns of the circuit board. One or more ground plane layers are arranged relative to the carbon material layer to cooperatively dampen and repel noise of varying frequencies. The positioning of the carbon material layer with respect to the ground plane layer enhances the ground plane operation. Glass fiber material layers and other insulating dielectric layers are disposed at particular locations within the noise dampening energy efficient circuit board. The carbon material layer and the ground plane layer dampen electromagnetic noise, thereby permitting energy saving design considerations, increasing energy efficiencies and reducing power consumption. Mounting posts of the surface mount components include insulating sleeves to selectively insulate different layers of the circuit board from surface mount components.

  • Publication number: 20110205128
Abstract: An antenna apparatus includes an electrically conductive section having peripheral edges, an antenna element coupled to the electrically conductive section, which transmits or receives electromagnetic signals, and an electromagnetic absorbing carbon material component. The carbon material component is generally disposed adjacent to the electrically conductive section, and includes a border region extending beyond the peripheral edges of the electrically conductive section by a given distance based on ?, where ? corresponds to the maximum wavelength of the one or more electromagnetic signals capable of being transmitted or received using the antenna element. Also, a distance between a surface of the carbon material component and the electrically conductive section is less than or equal to a value determined by ?.
