  • Publication number: 20030213544
Abstract: A long fiber-foam composite material, in which the long fibers are bonded to form a loose but dimensionally stable structure with good recovery properties. The long fibers are only partially bonded by foam particles in the shape of nodal points. The unfoamed or unfoamed foam particles are inserted into the structure when the latter is being formed. The unfoamed foam particles inserted into the structure are foamed by reacting or reactivating a foaming agent previously applied to a binding agent to be foamed. The expansion can freely take place without limiting the volume so that a minimal possible thickness can be obtained by complete expansion or in a predetermined volume having a predetermined thickness, for instance, by expansion in a double wall press or a mold.

  • Patent number: 6561562
Abstract: The interior of the passenger compartment of a motor vehicle is provided on its outer limiting surfaces with heat insulating materials, preferably to such an extent that a complete heat insulation is achieved. Such a complete heat insulation makes considerable and weight and energy savings possible when using heating and/or air conditioning systems in vehicles, and a corresponding reduction of pollutant emissions. The ecological effect of this measure is particularly reinforced if renewable raw materials are used as heating insulation materials, either alone or combined with plastics into composite materials in the individual areas of the motor vehicle. By appropriately designing and sizing the heat insulating measures, they can also lead to additional improvements are regards weight, mechanical stability and sound insulation, besides the actual heat insulating effect, substantially improving the usability and ecological compatibility of the motor vehicle.

  • Patent number: 6554932
Abstract: A blow molding part with a decorative coating is produced in a three-stage process. The blow molding part is initially produced without a coating in a blow mold tool cavity, and is then molded against the decorative coating material in a second blow-molding operation under low pressure and at a low temperature in a decorative coating cavity. The decorative coating material is heated up if appropriate and is placed in advance against a mold contour. The blow mold tool includes a middle part, which is provided between two movable side parts and can be moved or pivoted out. Mold contours of the middle part form with the mold contours of the side parts the blow mold tool cavity and the decorative coating cavity. The blow mold tool cavity has holding devices for the blow molding part. The decorative coating cavity has suction openings and heating elements for molding the decorative coating material and heating it up.

  • Patent number: 6488883
Abstract: A process for producing a plastic blow-molded part. A plastically deformable plastic parison with a first subregion and an opposite second subregion is placed between a molding element having a projecting region and a mold interacting with the molding element. A positive pressure is generated between the molding element and the first subregion and within the parison, to keep the first subregion at a distance from the molding element and to keep the first and second subregions at a distance from each other. A stretching region of the first subregion is preformed by moving the molding element in relation to an edge region in the direction of the mold and by generating a negative pressure between the projecting region and the stretching region of the first subregion. The subregions are deformed for generating a positive pressure within the parison.

  • Patent number: 6471908
Abstract: A method for the fabrication of synthetic-material component assemblies includes blow-molding synthetic-material components having a foam-backed decorative layer on part of their surface. Decorative material is initially pressed against a foam layer having one surface which has been heated and melted. During blow-molding of the component from an extruded synthetic-material tube, a composite decorative element produced in this way is pressed against an outer surface of the component and joined by fusion welding. The composite decorative element can either be performed in accordance with the contours of the component or have a flat structure, in which case it can be shaped, possibly with additional heating, together with the component during blow-molding.

  • Publication number: 20010007269
Abstract: A process for producing a composite structural element, which includes the steps of providing a thin-section wall part, placing the thin-section wall part into a mold, applying reinforcing elements to the thin-section wall part, placing a counter-mold onto the mold for forming a mold cavity, and introducing a binder having a foaming agent into said mold cavity via one of injection cannulas and nozzles, after a set time delay a foaming of the binder occurring for encapsulating the reinforcing elements on all sides.

  • Patent number: 6146564
Abstract: In a process for the production of molded parts that have a lamination of decorative material, as well as a foam layer between the decorative material and the molded part, the decorative material is first provided with an unfoamed backside layer. The backside layer is then connected to the molded part and expanded, while connected to the molded part, under the effect of heat.
