Publication number: 20220031918Abstract: A breast pump device and associated methods for extracting breast milk ate disclosed. A pump head comprises an external shell with an elastic membrane disposed and bonded therein to define at least one hermetically sealed chamber. Manipulation of the elastic membrane, for example, by adjusting suction or pressure in the sealed chamber or within an interior volume defined by the elastic membrane permits radial mechanical compression (positive pressure) to be applied to a nipple positioned in the pump head to simulate compression of the nipple by the infant's tongue and simultaneously permits axial hydraulic or pneumatic suction (negative pressure) to be applied to the nipple to simulate the infant's minimum intra-oral vacuum. The breast pump device of the present invention can generate these simultaneous compressions and suctions with a single vacuum source, which may be an electric pump or a hand-operated mechanical pump.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 13, 2021Publication date: February 3, 2022Applicant: MOMI BRANDS, INC.Inventor: Carr Lane Quackenbush

Patent number: 11147905Abstract: A pump apparatus and method for extracting breastmilk is disclosed. A pump head comprises a funnel-shaped breast shield portion and a neck portion leading to a collection container. A deformable elastic component is sealed within an opening formed in the neck portion and manipulated to engage the user's nipple to simulate the suckling of an infant. The deformable elastic component is configured to move into the interior volume of the neck portion under an applied positive pressure to compress the nipple and control nipple edema. The deformable elastic component is also configured to move away from the axial center of the neck portion under an applied negative pressure to create suction and extract breastmilk in a manner that closely replicates the suckling of an infant. The pump may also include another deformable elastic component to stimulate a Milk Ejection Reflex (MER).Type: GrantFiled: October 1, 2020Date of Patent: October 19, 2021Assignee: MOMI BRANDS, INC.Inventor: Carr Lane Quackenbush

Patent number: 11116880Abstract: A manual pump apparatus and method for extracting breastmilk is disclosed. A pump head comprises a funnel-shaped breast shield portion and a neck portion leading to a collection container. A deformable elastic component is sealed within an opening formed in the neck portion and manipulated by a mechanical actuation device to engage the user's nipple within the pump head to simulate the suckling of an infant and to compress the nipple to control edema. The deformable elastic component is configured to move into the interior volume of the neck portion under an applied pressure such that the deformable elastic component compresses the nipple to control nipple edema. The deformable elastic component is also configured to move away from the axial center of the neck portion under an applied pressure to create a volume to create suction and extract breastmilk in a manner that closely replicates the suckling of an infant.Type: GrantFiled: September 29, 2020Date of Patent: September 14, 2021Assignee: Momi Brands, Inc.Inventor: Carr Lane Quackenbush
