Patent number: 6350200Abstract: The present invention is directed to two forms of safety tips for friction lock, expandable batons; namely the Safety Tip™ and the Power Safety Tip™. Both safety tips of invention have a threaded end that is used to connect the tip to the small end of the baton. A step section with the same diameter as the small end diameter is advantageously used in the basic tip design to allow the shaft to be seated far enough into the handle to have full retention spring contact. The steel flange in the basic tip design also protects the softer peripheral tip cover material from being sheared off by the middle baton section when the baton is closed with a hard material in place on the steel section. In the power safety tip, the step section is the same diameter as the middle shaft of the baton, and this allows full contact with the retention spring. In both of the tip designs, the very end of the tip is rounded steel, the sides of which blend into the peripheral soft rubber-like material.Type: GrantFiled: December 10, 1998Date of Patent: February 26, 2002Assignee: Monadnock Lifetime Products, Inc.Inventors: Paul D. Patent number: 5320348Abstract: A expandable police baton embodying a cylindrical sleeve within which is slidably disposed a cylindrical shaft. The sleeve and shaft are formed with flats to prevent rotation of the shaft within the sleeve. The baton also includes a shock absorbing assembly positioned on the shaft.Type: GrantFiled: February 11, 1993Date of Patent: June 14, 1994Assignee: Monadnock Lifetime Products, Inc.Inventor: Paul D. Patent number: 5160140Abstract: An expandable police baton embodying a cylindrical sleeve within which is slidably disposed a cylindrical shaft and further embodying structure for limiting the position of the shaft on the one hand within the sleeve and on the other hand expanded therefrom. Preferably, the sleeve is comprised of aluminum and the shaft is comprised of polycarbonate or aluminum. A spring-biased nylon steel pin assembly is employed to limit contraction and extension of the shaft relative to the sleeve and a shock absorbent plug is employed to constrain extension.Type: GrantFiled: May 15, 1991Date of Patent: November 3, 1992Assignee: Monadnock Lifetime Products, Inc.Inventor: Paul D.
