  • Patent number: 8580172
Abstract: A method apparatus and product is provided which includes the use of an S-Tile mold, combined with a scoring/knifing process, which allows for subsequent controlled separation of what would normally be an S-Tile into two separate tile sections each having a general C-shaped cross section. This allows for two types of tiles (S-tiles and Two-Piece Mission tiles) to be made from one type of mold (S-tile). A method, apparatus and product is also provided which includes the use of an S-Tile mold, including or combined with a scoring, knifing, or forming process for providing a channel or other suitable shape, which allows for an S-Tile to be produced which appears to be two separate but cooperating tile sections having a general C-shaped cross section. The longitudinal channel 9 or other shape and or proximate area may also be painted, colored, or otherwise darkened in order to accent a “shadow” effect which causes the eye to better perceive separation of the two portions 6 and 7 of the tile 5.

  • Patent number: 8112945
Abstract: A method is provided for installing a ventilated eaves closure and tile support apparatus along the eaves of a roof. A vented eaves closure apparatus is disposed along the eaves to support the first course of roof tiles at a desired pitch. The apparatus provides support, ventilation, and drainage, while also providing a barrier to wind-driven precipitation, bird nesting, and animal invasion. The apparatus includes an array of openings configured to allow drainage and facilitate the flow of air beneath the tiles and throughout the air space between the roof deck and the tiles. The method and apparatus can be adapted to fit a variety of roof types and roof tiles having different sizes, shapes, and profiles.

  • Patent number: 7877957
Abstract: Various embodiments of the invention are directed to a method for installing an elevated batten system that includes a horizontal batten strip to which cylindrical-shaped pads are coupled. The pads elevate the horizontal batten strip above the roof deck surface, preventing water and debris from gathering on the roof deck surface and eliminating the need to install the vertical and horizontal battens in separate steps. Other various embodiments of the invention are directed to an elevated batten system that includes a horizontal batten strip to which pads are coupled that define a depressed portion. The depressed portion receives a fastener for coupling each pad to the horizontal batten strip, and in some embodiments, prevents irregularities in the height of the horizontal batten strip relative to the roof deck surface when installed on the roof deck surface.

  • Patent number: 7290373
Abstract: A roof transition system is provided for supporting and ventilating roof tiles near a roof transition such as a valley or a side wall. The system includes a corrugated flashing and an eave riser extension containing one or more openings for ventilation and drainage. The eave riser extension supports the lowermost row of roof tiles along the eaves at the pitch desired for the roof transition. The eave riser extension completes the closure of the entire eaves and provides support, ventilation, and drainage, while also providing a barrier to wind-driven precipitation, bird nesting, and animal invasion.

  • Patent number: 5772939
Abstract: A method of manufacturing concrete roof tiles having the appearance of shake by providing the leading edges of successive tiles with a randomly shaped leading edge. The method comprises forming a ribbon of mortar on a series of tile forming pallets; and effecting rupture of the ribbon at joints between successive pallets by causing a leading pallet to accelerate away from the remaining pallets to create a gap therebetween.
