Abstract: A polyolefin filter for tobacco products and the like was prepared. The extruded element is an open-cell foamed polyethylene or polypropylene having a TPM filtration efficiency greater than 20%. The filter rod can be made by extruding polyethylene containing less than 0.2 moles of a volatile blowing agent per 100 grams of resin at a melt temperature between 130.degree. C. and 150.degree. C., the temperature of the die being between 120.degree. C. and 136.degree. C. Higher melt temperature and die temperature are required for polypropylenes.

Abstract: An apparatus is provided for determining the specific gravity of a plurality of samples of solid water-insoluble materials which apparatus comprises a means for storing samples in spaced relationship, a means for weighing samples first in air and then in water, and a means for transferring samples, one at a time, from storage to the weighing means and returning each sample to storage after the weighing is completed, in which the transfer means and weighing means retain the same relative positions but the storage means and transfer means are movable so that the transfer means selects and transfers each sample in turn to the weighing means.

Abstract: Polymer compositions and processes for preparing polymer compositions having thermally reversible cross-links are described which compositions comprise a polymer having nitrogen atom-containing groups pendant from the polymer chain cross-linked by co-ordination bonds of nitrogen atoms of adjacent chains with the metal atom of a metal-containing organic compound in which the metal atom is attached to the organic moiety through sulfur or oxygen.
