Abstract: The methyl ester of O,O-dimethyl-dithiophosphoryl acetic acid is prepared with minimal formation of by-products by reacting the sodium salt of O,O-dimethyl-dithiophosphoryl acid with the methyl ester of 2-chloroacetic acid at a pH of 5.5 to 7, at relatively high temperatures, of the order of 80.degree. to 100.degree. C, for reaction times of 10 to 15 minutes. The process can be carried out continuously.
Abstract: There is disclosed a process for chloromethylating styrene-divinylbenzene copolymers by treating the copolymers with methylal and thionyl chloride in a molar ratio not exceeding 2:1 and in the presence of a catalyst of the Friedel-Crafts type or which consists of an acid.As is known, the chloromethylation of cross-linked aromatic polymers of the styrene-divinylbenzene type is an important stage in the preparation of anionic exchange resins.
Abstract: A catalytic process and apparatus for synthesizing ammonia wherein from 30 to 80% of the effluent gases containing at least 12 molar percent ammonia are recycled to the inlet of the catalyst bed.
