When deployed, the waste receptacle assembly has a receptacle (e.g., bag) formed by continuous tube of bag material that has been closed off on one end. The bag material pays out from a bag supply. Trash and other waste is placed in the receptacle by passing through an aperture in the bag supply. When retracted, the waste receptacle is disposed in a compartment in the vehicle's dashboard, with the compartment advantageously closed off by a door panel so as to contain potential odors from the waste. The bag material may be treated with a suitable sanitizing compound. When full, the bag material forming the receptacle may be pulled downward, cut from the adjacent bag material section, and disposed of. The “new” receptacle may then be placed in service.

The surgical instrument further includes, at its distal end, a socket dimensioned to receive an anchor to be implanted in a bore in the bone, which anchor also has secured thereto a suture to be passed through the pierced soft tissue and to be tied to the bone. The invention is particularly described with respect to a method wherein the tissue to be attached is labrum tissue detached from the glenoid bone in a shoulder joint.

    Abstract: Blood perfusion in tissue is imaged using a beam from a monochromatic laser light source that is scanned over the tissue surface in a predetermined pattern at a substantially constant speed. Light scattered from the tissue surface is collected. The position of the beam can be determined and recorded at any point of the scan, and the beam can be halted at a predetermined position or positions during the scan. Two or more photodetectors are positioned to collect light diffusely scattered from the tissue surface such that specularly reflected light is detected by either no detector or by only one detector at a given time. Electrical signals from the photodetectors are processed, and saturation of a photodetector is registered. The saturated photodetector is eliminated from the signal processing to ensure that only unsaturated photodetector signals are processed. The blood perfusion measurements are recorded and displayed.

The apparatus further measures and records the intensity of the detected scattered light, calculates and records the blood perfusion (flux), filters movement artefact noise, and displays the blood perfusion measured parameters. By filtering movement artefact noise, the apparatus enables fast tissue blood perfusion monitoring with enhanced signal quality.

    Abstract: Methods and apparatus are employed to enhance the efficiency and applicability of Fabry-Perot interferometers. In existing devices, light introduced at a first off-axis point on the image plane is partially transmitted through the interferometer to the detector and partially reflected to a second off-axis point on the image plane. Broadly, the invention re-uses the light reflected to the second off-axis point rather than discarding it. As one example, the reflected light is guided to a third off-axis point on the image plane for retransmission back through the interferometer to a different point on the detector. A plurality of optical fibers are employed, each having one end to receive light at an off-axis point of the image plane, and another end to re-direct the light back through the etalon from a different off-axis point of the image plane. Alternatively, the reflected light is guided to a second detector, which may, in fact, form a portion of a second interferometer.
