Abstract: A method of making a seal on a panel for a door or window by applying and curing a sealant on the surface of the panel is provided, preferably by screening the sealant onto the surface of the panel. The panel with the seal is mounted in a window or door frame such that the seal is disposed between the panel and the frame itself. To assemble the door or window, the panel may be inserted into “U” shaped grooves in the structural members comprising the door and the frame members assembled about the panel. The panel may have multiple layers with such seals interposed between the layers.

Abstract: A closure, such as a door or window unit, and a joint for such a closure are provided. The closure has an inside and an outside, and includes a plurality of first frame members alternately joined to a plurality of second frame members to form a planar frame, and a panel member is positioned within the frame. The joint, formed at each location where a first frame member abuts a second frame member, includes an end area of a first frame member, a mating area of a second frame member and a sealing member. The sealing member is disposed at the interface defined between the end area and the mating area to establish a weather-resistant barrier between the inside and the outside of the closure. A method for fabricating a closure is also provided.

Abstract: A joint adaptable for use in a closure, and a closure employing such a joint, which joint comprises a first member and a second member, the first member substantially copingly fitting the second member in a joint footprint and establishing a boundary between the inside and outside of a closure across the expanse of the joint footprint. The first member and second member cooperate to establish a via substantially at the boundary, which via is of appropriate dimension to accept application of a weather-sealing material to establish a weather-resistant barrier at the boundary.
