Patents Assigned to Morgan Stanley & Co. LLC
  • Patent number: 9411868
Abstract: A system and method for passive real-time order state replication and recovery. Upstream data is received from an upstream system via a reliable transport, the upstream data also received by a supported system. Downstream data is received from the supported system via the reliable transport. Data acknowledgements are received from the supported system acknowledging receipt of the upstream and downstream data. A replicated current order state of the supported system is continuously updated in real-time based on the received upstream data, downstream data and the data acknowledgements. A recovery request is received after the supported system has experienced an outage. The current order state is restored to the supported system by transmitting a recovery message to the supported system containing the replicated current order state.

  • Patent number: 8825539
Abstract: Relating resources expended by a securities research entity to revenue received by a financial services firm including the securities research entity. A computer system may receive account revenue data indicative of revenue received by the financial services firm from a first customer investment account for at least securities trade execution by the financial services firm for the first customer investment account. The computer system may also receive expense data indicative of expenses incurred by the securities research entity on behalf of the first customer investment account. The computer system may determine a market condition-adjusted elasticity for the first customer investment account.

  • Patent number: 8694413
Abstract: Computer-based systems and methods that determine interest profiles of contacts of work product. The contact interest profiles may indicate the contacts' interests in particular topics of research work product and/or analyst teams within the research department that produced the research work product. The contacts' interest profiles may be determined based on research work product accessed by the contacts according to topic and/or analyst team that produced the research work product, the interaction of the contacts with the research department, and any other reliable information indicative of the contacts' topic and/or team interests. Also, research work product items produced by the entity may be rated for each contact based on, for example, the topic(s) of the research work product items and the analyst teams that produced the research work product items, as well as the contacts' topic and/or analyst team interests.

  • Patent number: 8566146
Abstract: Computer-based systems and methods for computing a score (a “target score”) for the contacts of a research department. The target score may be computed for each contact for each analyst team of the research department. The target score indicates how resources should be deployed by the research department to maximize revenue for the research department. The target score is computed based on a number of metrics. These metrics can include both analyst-team-specific contact metrics that relate to the contact-analyst team combination, as well as account metrics that pertain to the investment accounts associated with each of the contacts. Weights for the metrics may be determined using an optimization algorithm.

  • Publication number: 20130036042
Abstract: Methods of facilitating a party's purchase of an electricity-generating solar power system are disclosed. The methods may comprise entering into, by the lender, an agreement with the party whereby, in exchange for a payment amount paid by the lender to a seller of the solar power system, the lender owns and is to sell up to 100% of the electricity generated by the party's solar power system after installation for a contract time period defined by the agreement. The methods may also comprise paying, by the lender, the payment amount to the seller for the solar power system. The contract time period may extend, for example, until sales of the electricity by the lender after installation generate an aggregate payment amount that meets or exceeds a specified level. The contract time period or unit quantity might also be fixed. The lender may also receive environmental attributes from the party.

  • Patent number: 8249900
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a system and method for terminating a pension plan through mutual annuitization. A mutual annuitization involves the formation of a new and dedicated mutual insurance company that issues group or individual annuity contracts to plan participants in a private pension plan. The plan sponsor would neither own any stock in the mutual insurance company, nor would it have voting or control rights or any right whatsoever to participate in the profits of the mutual insurance company. As a mutual insurance company, there are no shareholders as such. Instead mutuals have members, and it is the members who enjoy governance rights and participation rights in the company's profits, such as through policy dividend payments. In the mutual insurance company of the present invention, the pension plan participants are the mutual insurance company's sole members.
